For the last 7 months she's been on a chemo regimen of a combination of two drugs Gemzar and Cisplatin. She tolerated the treatment well at first and had significant response in the beginning. However, in the last month and a half her tumor markers started creeping back up and last week her oncologist ordered a Cat Scan. The scan revealed what we expected but dreaded. Her tumors have started to grow again and her main tumor is now larger than when she started chemo and tumors have spread across her liver and spread to her lymph nodes as well as her duodenum.
Her Dr.has stopped the Gem/Cis and wants to start her on FOLFOX...another cocktail. She was prepared to tell the Dr that she wanted to stop treatment this morning because the side effects were wearing her down. She's got hand and foot syndrome (neuropathy) so badly that she's afraid to walk anywhere because her feet are completely numb. Her hands are so badly affected that she can't button her clothes. She's lost 75-80% of her hearing, she's constantly fatigued and completely worn down and nauseous all day every day. She's passed out several times and has had seizures. She was scheduled for chemo today but it's been canceled. She starts FOLFOX next week. I don't know how long that will last, everything that I've read indicates that the side effects are worse than the Gem/Cis and it's efficacy is lower.
I honestly don't know how she keeps going on. I am in awe of her spirit and courage. I love her more than I can say and hate seeing her suffer while helpless and unable to do anything for her. So Please keep this brave, dear lady in your thoughts and prayers!
Thanks,
Dan.
Prayer Bump
Heartfelt healing, strengthening prayers for your dear Janet..
May God’s love surround you both.
You both are in our prayers.
Dan, I am continuing to pray for your bride and for yo as well. Went through how harsh the treatment can be with my father in 2009. Praying for the Lord to lift her up and give her continued strength. Don’t feel helpless. Your presence is giving her hope and strength to a degree that you can’t even imagine.
Thanks for the update. Prayers continuing for you and your dear Janet.
Just prayed again for your comfort and your wife’s healing.
Prayers up. I wish there were some alternative treatments available that actually work.
Ok I am borrowing from a dear departed friend that battled cancer for over five years and all the while prayed for others.
St. Peregrine once again we invoke your help and pray for your intercession to the Father. Dan’s wife is fighting against this cancerous attack. Please help bring her strength both physically and spiritually so that he can prepare her body and soul for the fight ahead. We pray that her body will be strong enough to be ready for the new treatment and that she be fit enough to come through, strong and brave to face the next phase of this battle. Blessed Mother, please be with Dans family and friends on this day and give them the courage to be his support through the coming days.
Along with prayers in memory of my dear friend Doc...
Bless you and your wife.
Your love is evident & I’m sure what keeps her going.
Prayers up for wisdom.
Both of you are in my prayers....
God Bless!
Father God,
You promise to see us through every situation.
We lift Jan up to You. We give You thanks for giving the victory through Christ Jesus. By Jesus stripes we were healed.
May the blood of Jesus cover every cell in Jan’s body.
We believe in miracles. Nothing is impossible for You.
Grant both Dan and Jan Your rest and peace.
In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
My heart breaks for the two of you. Prayers up.
I am so sorry Dan. I went through this with my husband. I would like to say I know what y’all are going through, but the truth is, this your personal crisis, and no one has walked in your shoes. Asking God to wrap His loving arms around you and your wife. Prayers that she will be able to tolerate the drugs. Will you give us her first name. Makes the prayers so much more personal.
Hang in there. I’ll be praying for you and your awesome wife.
I’m so sad to hear this. You both remain in my prayers, healing for Janet and strength for you by her side through every step.
May God be with you and give you and your wife strength during this difficult time.
Prayers for strength comfort and peace.
Continued prayers for your wife.
