From the sounds of this article about a Virginia gun club that needed approval to take on some construction projects, it appears as though anti-gun advocates were actually trying to end all gun owner activities rather than having any concern for actual firearms use on the range.
In July, they report that 13 people came out to oppose the clubs plans. Now, that might be expected if the club was looking to vastly expand the number and size of ranges or do something else that would greatly increase quality-of-life factors for residents around the club. But, no. They were opposing a new clubhouse, a picnic pavilion, and a driveway expansion. Opposition to those kinds of improvements is a direct opposition to gun owners meeting and organizing. Thats not about noise from a gun range or concerns over stray rounds. Thats just opposition to gun owners.
In September, the anti opposition had dropped to just one woman who appears to have made up concerns like a new clubhouse might mean that theres a new sudden interest in trespassing, along with concerns about noises from non-gun activities.
Im continually amazed at how so many anti-gun groups really want us to believe that they arent proposing going after gun owners when we see repeated assaults like this on even allowing gun owners to gather. At the national level, its been legislation that would effectively shut down gun shows. Here, its silly opposition to a freakin picnic pavilion.
h/t to VSSA, a great resource for Virginia gun owners
Opposition is at an all time high. I live in Central Virginia... have for 44 years. I’m in a rural area where it’s legal to target practice on your own property (and I have plenty of property). I’ve been enjoying shooting for years and years and years in this same place. A couple of weekends ago, I managed to get my hands on a few boxes of Ruger 9mm (scarce stuff on the shelves around here) and decided to put a few rounds down range. I went through about 40 rounds and then went inside to start fixing dinner. About a half hour later, a Sheriff’s Deputy was riding around looking for who had been shooting. Evidently, a neighbor on another road over called and complained that bullets were whizzing over their head. I took the officer to my shooting area which has a huge dirt berm backstop and explained that I had fired about 40 rounds 30 minutes earlier. It wasn’t even in the direction of the complainers house. The officer made sure I was aware if my liability in the event that a stray round went somewhere it shouldn’t and left. It just boggles my mind that a little 9mm would alarm someone. I’m really glad of one thing though.. I have guns, know how to use them, and they don’t.
Just some former DC hack who moved to their Dacha in the country after rapping the republic for 30 years or so would be my guess as to whom complained.
In Connecticut, the state dropped plans to expand a shooting facility on state land. The facility was to be for police use/practice. [Heavens knows, they need it]
Residents were screaming that *their quality of life* would go down. The state abandoned the plans. It was all about property values, IMO.

All this, in the wake of Sandy Hook.
This is only going to intensify here in VA if that scumbag McAuliffe is elected. BTW, he is ahead by 5% in the three latest polls.
Furthermore, these days I would not "fess up" about my shooting activities to anyone, let alone permit them to roam about my property. I would simply deny knowing anything about the shooting.
It is not a sin to lie to a tyrant.
Wouldn’t that mean that Mr./Mrs. Hoplophobe filed a false police report?
Last I heard, that’s a crime in and of itself.
If the hoplophobes filed a report with the Popo, you might have the right to review it.
Not sure if they’d have to file a report or not. I’m wondering if they did, what I need to do to go check it out.. Not that I really give a rats ass. What would I do with that info?
You could find out who the malcontent is that can’t be trusted. It’ll tell you which way to watch if the SHTF.
