Obama and Democrats Continue to Show Contempt for Veterans

As I predicted, the current government "slimdown" has caused every media outlet to bust out their sob stories of the mean ol' Republicans with coverage of tourists not being able to enter national parks or museums. Lost in the media anti-conservative blizzard is the utter contempt shown to our military veterans by Obama and his Democrat allies.

Yesterday we had House Democrats voting to block funding for veterans' benefits by a vote of 264 to 164. Apparently, rules were in place that required a 2/3 majority to pass the piecemeal spending bill, so a total of 286 votes were needed. Can't you just smell the hypocrisy of progressive liberals bleating about how they want to help the unfortunate souls of the world (as long as it's not their money and those receiving the aid become serfs under the dominion of the oh-so-benevolent state) but yet refuse to lift a finger to actually render that aid if it gets in the way of political victory? Obama and his progressive liberal Democrat allies have refused to negotiate at all, which is pretty standard for liberals. Compromise in the minds of liberals means abandoning your conservative principles to agree with them 100 percent and never, ever the other way around. When conservatives hear liberals cry out for "compromise", all we hear is "surrender." (You can get a list of all 164 Democrats who voted against the funding here at eriksoderstrom.com.)

The Democrat contempt for our military veterans continued in other ways. On Tuesday, a group of WWII vets, escorted by conservative lawmakers, crossed the barricades to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. Strange how an open air monument that was built with private funds is somehow closed to the public during the government shutdown. In fact, the White House's Office of Management and Budget ordered the World War II memorial closed. Another group of veterans visited the memorial today and had to move the barricades. These veterans were flown to Washington as part of Honor Flight, a program that flies World War II vets to see the memorial and pays for their expenses. We're losing so many of these proud soldiers every day and their sacrifice kept our nation free as they fought against fascism. What is utterly contemptible is that the federal government summoned Park Police officers to guard the monument against the veterans. As reported on Breitbart, the government called in furloughed officers to shut off access to the veterans, who were known far in advance that they were coming. The National Park Service even told the veterans they faced arrest if they visited the memorial. Can this administration spit any more in the eyes of our veterans?

Democrats and progressive liberals despise veterans privately, despite their public professions of support, due to the fact that military veterans are patriotic and self-reliant. These are two traits that progressive liberals abhor and continually attempt to stamp out. Don't forget that the federal government not too long ago labeled all military veterans as potentially dangerous.

As one last point over the WWII memorial, I was quite taken by the remark below by Paul Bedard from the Washington Examiner, where he cites that Obama sent more personnel to the WWII memorial than Benghazi. "At the World War II Memorial on The Mall in Washington, where veterans have been staging protests to keep it open, Washington Examiner's Charlie Spiering reports that at least seven officials were dispatched Wednesday morning to set up a ring of barricades to block tourists from the memorial. That is two more than the State Department had in Benghazi a year ago on the night of the terrorist attack that killed four, including the U.S. ambassador."

Veterans are a dangerous clan to the body politic. They are right out of "Rambo" in their view. They want them all marched thru forced gun confiscation and labeled PTSD by the VA so they can be prohibited from owning guns.

The fear of veterans who have been fired at in battle terrifies todays politician and their handlers. They cannot be so easily intimidated and are more principled than the Oprah, View watching, Survivor addicts that waste space in a free country under occupation by unwitting vote bought cowards clinging to their EBT cards and Obamaphones.

IMO, the Regime and RAT’s contempt for veterans extends to their widows and family members as well as all who served past, present, and future.

Saul Alynsky always said that the have-nots should rule over the haves. We know which category the military veterans fit into and which category the gangs and illegal immigrants fit into. 0bama is forcing it to his view of how we get “transformed”.

Good. We have the Democrat House members on record. Now pass the bill under rules requiring a 51% majority and send it to the Senate for a vote. Get the Democrat Senators on record as well for 2014.

The Republicans must start playing hardball. Use the shutdown to get the Democrats on record for voting against Veterans, border security, national parks, and other programs of interest to the taxpaying voter.

I agree that Republicans need to play hardball. The libs bring a gun to their fights while the establishment RINOs just bring knives. Backing down and compromising your principles just leads to capitulation.
