A new theory of liberalism
Powerline ^ | 11-2-2013 | Scott Johnson

A distinguished writer and friend whom we greatly admire writes with timely thoughts based on painful experience, submitted for your consideration:

"I’m always searching for a unified field theory of liberalism that reconciles its craziness, destructiveness and sanctimony. I thought the “liberalism is a mental disorder” meme came close, but in the end was too easy. It’s like having a madman as a villain in a story–you don’t have to explain, motivate or justify his behavior. It’s the difference between “Friday the 13th” and “Crime and Punishment.”

A recent sad experience with a friend undergoing rehab has left me with another analogue. I now think liberalism is an addiction and displays all the behaviors commonly associated with addictive behavior.

Well, not “liberalism” per se. That policy-agenda is really an elaborate metaphorical delusion built to camouflage the true drug these poor souls crave so desperately: moral superiority.

It’s as powerful as heroin or cocaine. It supplies a terrific high: all sense of personal failure, betrayal, guilt, ineffectiveness, irrelevance, of being nothing and nobody, disappears in a flash. Instead our hero feels extraordinarily good about himself. He is helping. He is compassionate. He is without sin. He is sensitive, caring, part of the solution and not the problem. He feels handsome, daring and heroic. He thinks it will get him laid. How could he not love this?

He cannot see the harm he is doing, either at the micro level or at the cataclysmic macro level; he cannot see how his “generosity” with other people’s money, for example, has devastated the black community, turned it bitter, hopeless, impulsive, violent and addicted itself to free stuff from the gub’mint as well as the crutch of “racis” to justify everything.

But you have seen this most explicitly in the last few weeks, as Obamacare, a hopelessly idiotic delusional program meant to redistribute wealth (in the form of medical care) to the unfortunates who’ve never paid a tax in their lives, has crashed and burned. As anybody who knows anything about the addictive state knows, when the addict is threatened with the cut-off of his supply, he becomes a monster.

I saw this with my friend, who it turned out had been lying to me for years about his addictions. He loved me; I kept him alive. But he could not help himself from using me and feeding me a tapestry of lies to keep the money coming. I thought I was “helping,” just as liberals think they are helping. But I learned, finally, that I was just enabling. This is a lesson liberals will never learn.

As the collapse of Obamacare reveals, they go into reflexive monster mode. Like any addict, they will lie, cheat, steal, even become violent when their supply is threatened. They have no moral qualms about betraying their closest friends because the moral part of them is dead. They see only the end of their high and that becomes the defining issue of their life. They will do anything to protect it. That is why they are such wily opponents and such aggressive defenders of what the whole of the rational world now realizes was fabrication, delusion and ultimately fantasy.

So if we look to liberate them from the agony they don’t even know they suffer from, we must look to the known cures of addiction. Terrible, hard work, draining and demoralizing, but I think we are up to it."

As good an explanation as any. I used to read Dr. Sanity's blog, and she wrote articles in the past along the same line.

Odd that the liberals think they are morally superior.

Liberalism is in the same class of psychological illnesses as megalomania: I am All. I am God, I am Man's conscience, I am the guiding parent to a horde of errant children, I am the guardian of Truth and scourge of Lies, I am the arbiter of fashion and taste, the font of all knowledge, and the loving but stern executor of Right. My worldview is THE worldview. All else is chatter.

That explains every liberal from Stalin to Obamateur. It is narcissism writ large, and more often than not, writ in the blood of innocents.

I just don’t see the sanctimonious do-gooders in the Democrat party. I suppose there are a few left. Most Democrats are cold, ruthless con men out to enrich themselves. We adjust our arguments with them based on our thinking that they are just misguided do-gooders. They aren’t. They want you to think that, just like the con man wants you to see that bent card. It’s misdirection. Honestly....look at the leadership of the Democrat party. Look at them. Don’t listen to them. Do you see even one person with a broken heart? Even one with a heart for service? Not one. They are all about enriching themselves. At least the Republicans are honest about it.

Liberalism used to be about freedom from the tyranny of government.

Now it has become little more than a racket to make people feel guilty for the purpose of creating programs to redistribute wealth to buy votes.

Good explanation!....That why a liberal can never admit to even the smallest of failures of “liberal thinking” no matter how logical it may appear.......To do so would open the floodgates of common sense and crush their self-esteem.....It really is all about “feeling” to them

Liberalism is a kind of stage fright applied to real life. So afraid they will fail at something they want the nanny state to take away all risk and assume control if all choices. To work the stage fright meme a bit more, they happily take the part of an extra rather than try for a staring role.

Looks like we need a 12-Step Recovery Program here. Let's see:....

1. We admitted we were powerless over other people, and that their lives had become unmanageble by us........

2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves (not Government!) could restore us to sanity....

etc., etc...

Not really. Delusion of “Moral Superiority” is a hallmark of many psychoses. Narcissists, psychopaths, sociopaths all believe they are a cut above the rest of us. Goes hand-in-hand with lack of humility.

Here is my theory:

liberals fall into one of two categories. The deceivers or the deceived.

The deceivers are the elected politicians with nothing but bad intent. They know exactly what they are doing and they know that liberalism is all lies. They have mastered centuries old ways of deception in order to enrich themselves and have ruthless power over other peoples lives. They are the very definition of evil.

All the rest of the liberals are the deceived. They have for various phycological reasons fallen for the lies, the promises and the appearance of moral high ground. They have attached emotion to words and logic that completely distorts their ability to use reason. They have actually suffered a limited form of brain damage and most will never recover.

“Odd that the liberals think they are morally superior.”

Doesn’t strike me as odd at all. Liberalism is a religion in which God is absent. Without a caring God to right the world’s ills, it is left to liberals to make a difference. That is their mindset and hence moral superiority.

Rather than humbling themselves before God, they seek to replace him.

It also explains why conservatives resign when caught in controversies. There is a sense of shame, and they are accused of hypocrisy by the press and democrats.

For a democrat no such shame exists. Nothing can be a hypocrisy in a world without sin or shame or wrong doing.

The only difference between a liberal and a communist is that a communist has bothered to read the Manifesto.

If you know any libs and really want to yank their chain, point out that the people they love to hate, the ones they feel morally and intellectually superior to: the Tea Party Rubes, were right about Obamacare.

I don’t know why you would think it odd that Liberals think that they are morally superior.

After all they are crazy generous to a fault with other people’s money.
