I had a customer once that got offended that I said “Merry Christmas” to her. Something like I shouldn’t just assume she wants to be told Merry Christmas or some crap like that.
I replied to her without missing a beat:
“I’m sorry ma’am, you’re right. Have a Christmas”
I swear I saw steam coming out her ears as she stormed out the door.

I met Muhammad Ali at the Ring Side club at the Forum in LA some years ago.
It was close to Christmas, so I wished him a merry Christmas. He mumbled something and seemed dazed...His little entourage didn't appear too merry either.
I thought he was just brain damaged until it occurred to me this guy was a Muslim... I still get a good laugh out of it.
