Jerk of the Week - Kevin Blackistone

There are many reasons that enter into making our Jerk of the Week decisions. Hypocrisy, dishonesty, and elitism are a few of the characteristics that adorn our nominees. Our usual target is progressive liberals, who slaver like mad dogs over the prospect of limiting the freedoms of Americans and controlling every aspect of our lives. However, several of the biggest reasons to land on our Jerk list are an anti-American attitude and disrespecting our military. We don't believe in blind worship of our military but understand that the vast majority of those in uniform sacrifice a great deal for our country and our security. There may be a few bad apples from time to time, but such incidents are not the norm and we vastly esteem those in serve. My brother spent twelve years in the navy and I have many friends who have, or still are, proudly serving our country. All of this leads us to the intersection of culture and sports, where a loudmouth ignoramus spouted such nonsense, that we knew he had this week's honors sewn up. Our Jerk of the Week is Kevin Blackistone.

Kevin Blackistone is one of the regular panelists on ESPN's Around the Horn. I've watched the show quite a few times, but I admit that I have cut back my ESPN viewing drastically since quite a bit of liberal bias has steadily crept into their commentary. Be that as it may, the topic of Northwestern University wearing football uniforms styled upon the American flag was brought up. When asked if he wanted to buy or sell the idea, Kevin Blackistone went off the rails, insulting America and our military.

Blackistone said, “I’m going to sell it too. And if you sell this along with me you should also be selling the rest of the military symbolism embrace of sports: whether it’s the singing of a war anthem to open every game, whether it’s going to get a hotdog and being able to sign up for the Army at the same time, whether it’s the NFL’s embracing of the mythology of the Pat Tillman story. It’s has been going on in sports since the first National Anthem was played in the World Series back in 1917, and it’s time for people to back away.”

The show's host, Tony Reali, then said, "But there's a difference, though, between calling a football game a 'battle' and singing the National Anthem before a game." Kevin Blackistone replied, " You are conflating a war anthem with a simple game. And when you have military flyovers and all the other military symbolism that goes on in sports, I think you’ve got a problem.”

So the Star Spangled Banner is a war anthem and we the people need to back away from it? Having recruiters at a game is horrible? Does he think that the simple-minded rubes that go to the football game (and help support his journalistic career) are so brainwashed by the pagan war-like pageantry that they immediately are set upon by unscrupulous recruiters and are then whisked away to boot camp then and there? This man is not only a jerk, he's a total ass. I guess he hates having military recruiters coming into schools as well. Sadly, this pathetic fool is not alone as there's been a deliberate campaign for a long time to denigrate our military. In the past, it was considered a positive trait of a tv or movie character if they had served, but now such people are portrayed as unstable or dangerous. I regularly watch Turner Classic Movies and movies from the 1940s and 1950s were filled with heroic soldiers or ex-soldiers, fighting the good fight either abroad or at home. Fast forward to the last thirty years and most portrayals of veterans or active military is negative. Still, the resilience and spirit of America endures and young people actively seek to join the military and defend our nation. I guess it's too much to ask for progressive liberals like Kevin Blackistone to appreciate that fact, and that's why he's our Jerk of the Week.

I think we like to combine war images with sporting events because war offers an undeniably clear picture of America Power in use. Most of us like it. We are fascinated and invigorated by the sights or the sounds of American Power. A small group of contrarians don’t want to see it, don’t want it seen publically at all. The Contrarians don’t like the notion of clear and public victory of anything, not even their own country.

This guy has the right to say whatever he wants because he has free speech.

When free speech was put into the Bill of Rights.......duels were still legal - just saying.

I’m sure most people on this forum are aware that some of the most radical leftists in media are found on many sports programs. ESPN is the most egregious, but other sports networks have the same anti-American jerks. Many of them are too dim to understand they’re making a lot of money talking and writing about sports as opposed to other professions where they’d actually have to work for a living. Dan LebaStard is probably worse than Blackistone. A few years ago LebaStard was upset because Tiger Woods hadn’t done anything for “social justice” yet. Mike Loopyca is a certified a..clown as is Keith Olberbaby.
