A father attempts to pick his children up from school by foot which triggers an explosive reaction from the overseeing officer who is enforcing a new car pick-up policy. Jim Howe, the father, is arrested for disorderly conduct for no clear reason and has filed a lawsuit. “I’m not raising my voice, I’m not confrontational, I want my kids,” Jim Howe said prior to the arrest. “You don’t need a reason as a parent to go get your children. They are our children,” says Howe.

When I watched this video two and a half hours ago, it had about 1,500 views. At this moment, it has 27,676 views.
At our school, we have to call the office (or write an e-mail) to let them know our boy is staying home. They don’t want to know why - but rather that he’s not there per the parent’s permission — namely that he has not been kidnapped or somehow got lost. So, it’s purely a safety measure.

There’s gotta be a backstory here. The deputy is irritated by the guy as soon as he enters, and refers to prior incidents. The guy freely admits he’s been in county jail before.
Still, the deputy seems to be playing the role of a fascist brownshirt, which is all too common among LEO types nowadays. If the guy just wants to walk his daughter home, Deputy Friendly would just let him do it in a free republic. In a free republic, Deputy Friendly would not even think of interfering with a father and daughter absent extreme circumstances.

A sheriff went into a store and bought two six packs of beer. The clerk told him the 12 pack was cheaper. the sheriff said he couldn’t drink a 12 pack so bought the two 6 packs.
True story. I went to school with them. The sheriff was a moron in school and is a moron today. He got the office because he ran unopposed.
“Out with parents” wouldn’t work at most schools if you want Little Johnny to make up his work. There has to be a doctor’s appt or some other specific reason or he’ll get a 0 for the day which messes with his GPA.
Works at mine, and it’s a public school to boot. However, I just say that they missed school, parents knowledge and permission, and they always make up the work.
They get X many number of “excused” absences per year.
