I remember this show. Most of the episodes were filmed in the Bronx. You could spot the old 3rd Av el in some scenes.

This one is a gem.
Two of the NYPD’s finest decided to open fire on an unarmed, mentally disturbed man outside New York’s Port Authority Bus Terminal. His capital offense–wandering through traffic.
Though these defenders of the realm missed their target, they did manage to shoot two women who had the impudence to be on the scene.

You got that right. A few years ago city cops here discharged multiple rounds into a car of a mentally disturbed young woman who had passed out in her car in the parking lot of a gas station. Of course, the woman was killed. They spotted a revolver on the seat next to her and when one of the cops smashed out the window some of the others started opening caps, then the rest did so. I don’t think any of the cops received anything more than retraining on the the use of deadly force, but the woman is permanently dead.
He was annoying the cops. That can be a felony in New York.

Fleeing in the commission of a felony, a cop can use lethal force.

One of my childhood best friends is a trooper. Never used guns growing up and talks about how he qualifies at the low end of the spectrum.
I’m fairly confident he wouldn’t know how to operate his handgun if it had a safety located anywhere besides on the trigger (Glock).
