Ducks Down: Truth Not Welcome in PajamaBoy America
The Backwoods Engineer Blog ^ | 20 Dec 2013 | The Backwoods Engineer

Duck Commander Phil Robertson has gone and offended PajamaBoy's America, in an interview in GQ magazine that no doubt all my readers have heard about by now.    But there is more to this furor than meets the eye; it speaks more about the divide in America than about Robertson and the gays who are attacking him.

You see, Christians like Phil Robertson (and Ol' Backwoods) take the Bible, Old and New Testaments, to be God's Word and absolute truth. So, when the Apostle Paul tells the Corinthians that if you practice one or more of a particular list of sins, you won't be part of the Kingdom of God, well, we Christians take that seriously.

1 Corinthians 6

9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Here's one source for what Robertson said to GQ Magazine:

Robertson described in the interview how sin is becoming acceptable in America and that the country needs to turn back to its Christian values. "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men," Robertson told GQ. "Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers-they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

The paraphrased quote from 1st Corinthians is in bold.

Robertson believes God (speaking through Paul) here.  This passage plainly says that those who practice homosexuality-- and note that other grave sins aren't left out-- cannot plan on going to Heaven.  Whether God's grace will save them from Hell is not specifically addressed here, though in other places (Romans 1), it is implied that these sinners will go to Hell.

Strange how people who don't believe in God get their panties in a wad (so to speak) when a man of God speaks of God's condemnation of their sin, and does it in terms--"vagina" vs. "a man's anus"--that homosexuals surely understand.

The homosexuals (predictably) went ballistic:

In January's issue of GQ, Robertson said that "homosexual offenders" will not "inherit the Kingdom of God" and unfavorably compared "a man's anus" to the vagina.

The gay rights group was quick to denounce his comments.  In a statement, GLAAD spokesman Wilson Cruz slammed the Robertson family patriarch:

"Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil's lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe..."

Really, dude?  True Christians believe the Bible, not homosexual propaganda, and the Bible condemns in stark terms what you people do, along with other grave sins.

The problem came when Robertson was fired from A&E.  The federal anti-discrimination laws, which descend from the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, come to bear.  Strange who those who pushed for "tolerance" in the workplace are most intolerant when it comes to what Christians believe.

Professional sulk Piers Morgan had this to say about such 1st Amendment-derived protections:

Piers Morgan        Just as the 2nd Amendment shouldn't protect assault rifle devotees, so the 1st Amendment shouldn't protect vile bigots.

Yeah, why don't you go back to Jolly Old England, Piers, ya limey, where Islam can have its way with you because there is no 1st or 2nd Amendment to constrain the government or its tentacles?

But Phil Robertson has been supported by many more than have criticized him, it seems.  Conservative media types from  Charlie Daniels to Larry the Cable Guy to  have rushed in to defend Robertson.   Conservative talker Laura Ingraham said this:

See, Robertson's playing for Jesus. He's not playing for public adulation. He has a different mindset. He's playing for the eternal. The calumny that he's getting now,; if you read the Bible, you should expect it. Jesus said, 'I come not to bring you together, I come to divide you.'; Because he knew that his very presence, his message was going to bring... well, ultimately bring about his crucifixion and divide people, divide kingdoms, divide families even because in the Bible, the light of Christ is attractive to so many, but it's repellent to many others.

(Emphasis mine) Ol' Backwoods figures many Christians have forgotten that the Bible is repellent to those who are wedded to their sins.

Even so, there are a few honest brokers remaining on the Left, and some have stood for Robertson's right to speak his beliefs in the public square, even some whose sins Robertson spoke specifically about.  Openly-homosexual media figure Camile Paguilla, who called Robertson's firing from A&E Networks "utterly fascistic" and "utterly Stalinist."

Conservative politicians from Sen. Ted Cruz (R, TX) and Representative Steve Stockman (R, TX) to Gov. Bobby Jindal (R, Louisiana), expressed support for Robertson.

And on Facebook, a page supporting Phil Robertson after his comments has reached 1 MILLION "Likes" in less than 24 hours.

The Robertson's sponsors have mostly stood by them, notably SkyJacker Suspensions and UnderArmor.

In fact, most of that part of America that did not vote for Barack Obama does support Phil Robertson.

The way Ol' Backwoods sees it, John Edwards was right: there are two Americas.  Here they are:
Duck Commander's America and PajamaBoy's .

Duck Commander's America vs. PajamaBoy's

Duck Commander's America values righteous living, limited and distributed government, fiscal prudence, self-reliance, and stewardship of natural resources by Mankind who is appointed master of them. (Thus, hunting and fishing.) It values families headed by a married man and a woman, and children raised to respect the rule of law, their elders, and the rights of others.    Many, if not most, in Duck Commander's America are Christians and observant Jews, and stand for the truth of the Word of God, even as it judges our own lives.

But PajamaBoy's America is a Potempkin village of lies and illusions.  PJ America stands for utter dependence on big centralized government, which prints funny money, taking from the producers and giving without requiring labor to the non-producers, who "do what feels good," regardless of any moral standard but that which man makes.  PJ America places worship of the Earth, plants and animals over man, and through the power of big government, restricts access to necessary resources. It values destruction of children in the womb above the raising of a family.  Parents are optional in PJ America, as children are raised by agents of the State, which ensures a perpetual childhood, without any discrimination or punishment for anything the child does.  PJ America values "truthiness" (i.e., propaganda the gullible will swallow) over truth, and "spin" over honesty.  It uses the media, big-government's right arm, at every turn to shame the righteous and those who do not conform to its diabolical vision for the future, namely, the boot stamping a human face forever, as Orwell put it.

PajamaBoy America is not a place I want to live.  Ol' Backwoods stands with the Duck Commander.

As for me and my house, we will serve THE LORD.

(I guess that puts us in Duck Commander America.)

Thanks.

And by the way, Duck Commander America is the same place as "Ranya Bardiwell America", "Boone Vikersun America" (viker like biker), and "Phil Carson America".

Correspondingly, Pajama Boy America is the same as "Sidney Krantz America", "Jamal Tambor America", and "Bob Bullard America".

(These are all references to Matt Bracken's books.)
