As a E5 that got out early I have had two O5’s work for me, several O6s apply for jobs and a retired 1 star general who wanted to be a lobbyist for me.

I think they work better with big companies.

This was posted earlier. It’s hard to believe that with his good military pension, that he can’t find a place to live, plus pay all of his outstanding debts, alimony, help his kids with college, etc.

Alternately, if he can’t do it all, maybe he should not be paying for his kids college? There are student loans, and there are part time jobs which his kids could use to help pay for school. If the alternative is the old man being homeless, it seems a no brainer that he not pay for his kids college any longer.

Doesn’t a 30 year career give a 75% retirement?

For an O-6 that’s around $7500/month.

Another thread on this this morning.
Consensus seemed to be that 2 former spouses bleeding the pension and some expensive offspring schooling were the main causes of his plight.

Umm, was his military retirement cut-off for some reason? Because I could live quite nicely on O-6 pay in any but the most expensive cities. Or am I missing something here? As for finding him a job, I will do so if someone could contact him and send him my way. I’ve lost count of how many veterans I’ve assisted back when I was a vet rep at the state unemployment office.

This is what happens when you let the government take care of all your needs for a lifetime. Apparently doesn’t matter if you live in public housing or on base. I have seen plenty of retired military studs loose their bearings when the stripes and gold come off. It is surprising to see how many relatively young healthy guys are dead 6 months after retirement.

Gotta call a BS flag on this Colonel. After a 30 year service record (as an O6 this is his mandatory retirement mark if he did not make his first star) he would be pulling in $6,900 +/- before taxes. Unless his van is fully outfitted with a hot tub and some serious rims, he is fibbin’ to someone.

The Sarasota, Fl. newspaper many years ago did a study of the homeless. They hired a private detective. The results were so stunning and not what they expected I was surprised they published them. Many of the homeless had an equivalent income of $30,000 considering they didn’t pay taxes. When the detective found many had bank accounts and retirement pay they interviewed them. One was a retired officer. He just didn’t own a house and was perfectly happy on the street. Many of them simply rented motel rooms when the weather got bad.

For those people, living on the street and panhandling was simply a lifestyle. I’d be surprised if a guy who made decent money and had a military retirement couldn’t live under cover if he wanted to. Something is missing from this story.

An O5 with 30yrs should have a $50,000 retirement.

He could move to the midwest and live VERY well for the rest of his life.

That’s what I don’t understand. Even if he retired earlier than expected, he would still pull in a pension than most people have incomes. There is no reason he should be homeless, unless gambled it all away or something

A friend of mine had a daughter who was a lawyer and couldn't find a job after 2 years of looking.

I suggested her daughter put together a brief letter stating some of the services she could provide and her experience and then offer herself as an independent contractor to local law firms at a low initial fee.

She got work at the second firm she talked to and after six months they hired her full time.

Moral of this story...take initiative and create your own job.

'Spots are hard to come by. Freniere, like many of his fellow down-on-their-luck veterans, does not match any hat-in-hand Hollywood image of homelessness. He receives an annual pension from the military of more than $40,000.

His struggle to find a job after retiring from the Air Force collided with the end of his marriage nearly two years ago. Unable to return to the home he shared with his estranged wife, and faced with expenses including bills for two sons in college and debts that mounted when he maintained a nicer lifestyle, he took up a nomadic existence.'

Bills. Bills. Not how much ya make, but how much ya saved. Lots of people are a divorce away from the street.

Also factors for the homeless, alcohol/drugs and/or bipolar disorder (and the occasional schizophrenia).

The Obama Utopian Hope and Change Miracle is working!

Robert F. is a perfect target for Obamanation because Robert F. is:
* Well educated,
* Vast Military experience,
* And older than Barry Soetoro.

I had a retired air force colonel who worked for me for years. He was the least productive member of the team by a considerable margin.

I think I’d drive up to the kids’ dorm(s) and publically embarass them and announce .... “no”

Conjecture on the other thread was that the two former spouses were getting a good portion of the pension.
