"The South was pro-slave, the North was anti-slave, it doesn’t matter "

The truth matters, and you clearly don't know what it is.

It took until 1840----only 25 years before the end of the Civil War---for the majority of Northern slaves to be freed. Pennsylvania still had slaves until 1847, Connecticut until 1848. There were still some slaves in New Hampshire and New Jersey until 1865.

Anti-black racism was rampant in the North. Blacks were attacked in the streets; they had their homes, schools, and churches burned.

So you can hop right off that moral high horse.

The fact is the New York Times in 1859 was beating the drums for a Northern War on the South, because Southern ports like New Orleans were no longer charging tariffs on imports, and were thus getting lots of business that had previously gone to Boston’s and New York’s ports. Read it on microfiche!

Trying to change the subject? This thread is about the tyranny of Lincoln who cared nothing about the Constitution unless he could use it as a club.

You say we were tyrants, I say you were tyrants. You brought up the subject of tyranny.

Didn’t the south fire the first shot?
___

Isn’t Ft. Sumter located in Charleston, SC? Major Robert Anderson, commander of the Union forces occupying Ft. Sumter, refused repeated calls to abandon the fort. The Union’s blockade of Charleston harbor was effectively the first shot fired.

Abortion is a FAR worse institution than slavery ever was.

What a crock that is! The South was Democrat and any Southerner today who calls himself a conservative is a Dixiecrat in sheep's clothing.

There have always been ways to declare war without declaring war — one such story was where the ambassadors/messengers were sent back after having their beards burnt off.

You did not read the passage.

Was the south taxed or tariffed?...No they weren't. They opposed the high tariff on foreign goods and got their way to have it lowered in the 1850s.

We? Were YOU on Lincoln’s staff when he suspended the writ of habeas corpus and imprisoned thousands of people for speaking out against the war. If so, you ought to be tried, found guilty, and hanged.

“What a better world this would be if the South succession had been a achieved permanently.”

Can’t say that by now the South wouldn’t have been equally corrupted away from constitutional values as has the Fed. gov.

You conveniently forget that the fort was on Southern soil.

No, it was at an inlet and did not exist before being built by the Federal Government.

Best books on Lincoln are those by Thomas DiLorenzo. Lincoln was a criminal and DiLorenzo squashes him like a grape.
