You could thank the idiot Gerald Ford for making us endure Justice Stevens

by BigFurHat - February 23, 2014 - 14:55 America/New_York

Fords “republican pick” of Justice Stevens was about as good as nearly every other Republican pick in the last 40 years.

Now, in retirement, Stevens is calling for a change to the 2nd amendment. He would like to add 5 words.

Breitbart-

His solution is to amend the text of the Second Amendment so that it reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms when serving in the militia shall not be infringed.”

more

We are all militia now.

What does this pinhead think the 2nd amendment guaranteed, that citizens have the right to bear arms when they are in the military????

How about an amendment to guarantee the right to be wet when you’re in water?

Doesn’t the perceived need to change the 2nd confirm that it means what we all say it means? Stephens is saying, “We must amend the 2nd because it DOESN’T mean you have to be in a militia.”

Exactly, Stephens will never fool a thinking man with his nonsense. But a liberal? He’ll fool them all day long.

But a liberal? He’ll fool them all day long.

Exactly, and he's an old fool if he thinks there's a chance of amending the 2nd.

I don’t understand why this is so hard.

Every single amendment in the Bill of Rights describes personal protections. Why on earth would the founding fathers toss a ‘collective right’ into the mix?

Can’t really blame Ford, supreme court justices have a long history of going off the rails all by their lonesome. If 3 are nominated you’ll be lucky if one is confirmed and is a consistent constitutionalist.

Vote for a RINO and he might win the Presidency.
If he wins the Presidency, he will govern like a Democrat.
If he governs like a democrat, he will appoint liberal Supreme Court Justices.
If he appoints liberal Justices, you will get depressed.
If you get depressed, you will stay at home.
If you stay at home, you will get fired.
If you get fired, you will be replaced by an inexperienced zookeeper.
When someone inexperienced does your job, mistakes will be made.
When mistakes are made, you get body-slammed by a low-land gorilla.
DON’T get body-slammed by a low-land gorilla!
Vote for conservatives.

To amend an Amendment means to repeal it by passing (two-thirds) and ratifying (three-fourths) a new one (remember Prohibition?) and it is a slow, difficult process as the Founders intended it to be.

You’d think ANY Supreme Court justice would know enough about the Constitution to realize this.

OTOH...if John Paul Stevens sounds loony, look up his predecessor William O. Douglas. That one was not only a wild-eyed liberal but refused to vacate his office after official retirement & remained a cantankerous old coot till the very end. And he was only 81 when he finally croaked.

In fairness to Gerald Ford, Stevens snuck in as a Midwestern moderate then swung hard left once ensconced in the SC.

Stevens gets a Valentine from Feinstein & Schumer but it won’t go any further. Not thirty-eight states’ worth, anyway.

I blame idiot Beltway Republicans for many problems in this country. THEY are the ones who should have known better, had more character, listened to the conservative voices in their party. They betrayed us all for their own selfish perks, many while cynically wrapping themselves in a “Conservative” mantle every election cycle.

If Spiro Agnew hadn’t been crooked, Jerry probably would have retired as minority leader. If you want to blame someone, blame him.

LOL! I love it and those three deserve each other.

Agreed, his brainf**t is going nowhere.

Doesn’t matter how they warp the Bill of Rights. My God given rights exist whether they are written down or not.

There’s no doubt that Ford was a moderate but at the time congress was busy punishing him for Nixon’s sins and there would be no conservative nomination no matter what.
