choice the innate programming that controls a persons preferences appears to be set during pregnancy.

Actually, lying was an essential strategy for Madsen and Kirk's proposed Lieaganda campaign, which they laid out in 1987 in a DC alternative-lifestyle rag called The Guide, in an article series they titled "Overhauling Straight America". (It was later washed somewhat for consumption by "breeders" and reissued in book form as After the Ball.)
Their proposal was a breathtaking inversion of democracy. They would use self-admittedly Nazi black-propaganda tactics borrowed from Josef Goebbels to tell America what to think, bullying Americans out of their opinions with psywar methods, and drive them like frightened children into other opinions useful to the sodomites.
The "essentialist" position, that men are "born gay", was debunked by Irving Bieber, who performed a longitudinal study in the 1950's and 1960's on the etiology of homosexuality and the question of whether reparative therapy using psychotherapeutic approaches could "cure" homosexuals. (The answer was, in 1/3 of cases not at all, in about half of cases possibly yes, and in the rest of cases, a qualified "maybe".)
Research by others in the 1980's and 1990's showed that the etiology of homosexuality is in-utero development for the "essential" 30-some percent of gay men. For the rest, surveys of active homosexuals showed that reorientation by habituation (seduction by older homosexuals) is the orienting factor in about half of men's cases and almost all lesbians', the vast majority of whom are driven by "issues" with men, not by some gay essence.
Further research by homosexual activist doctors (Robert Spitzer) failed to discover a "gay gene".
The point of the essentialist argument was to draw an equation, as legal "operational truth" (lies asserted and hewed to with a straight face), between homosexual preferences on the one hand (word "preference" henceforth to be demonized) and race and skin color on the other, in order to support an assertion of a civil right.

I think we are losing this war. It is so horrible that I am at a loss as to how to begin winning again. Although we did lose the war on abortion but slowly are making gains towards pro-life populous, but it took 40 years and the baby boomer to leave pregnancy to have this happen.

NOBODY woke up one morning and said “I guess today is the day I decide if I’m gay or straight”. NOBODY went to school
one day for “pick your gender orientation” day....perhaps it
was scheduled for the same day as “career day” and I missed it.
Homosexual orientation is not a choice people make like
which color car to buy or what college to go to. It’s a
realization that most come to at some time during adolesence. And it’s a source of great pain and suffering
for many who wish to fit in to the norm but don’t feel normal trying to fit in. In short it’s a curse for most who

A small portion of the small group of homosexual people in
this country have become so vocal and militant with the help
of the communists in power and their media lapdogs that they
are making most people hate ALL homosexuals when it is only
a small number of them that wish to impose their will on
everone, just as it is a small number of people who go into
politics so they can impose their will on others.
Homosexuality is condition that people suffer from...not a
choice they made and it is for most of them a source of
distress and pain as they came to terms with it. I feel
SORRY for them. I will not condemn them for what I know is
a condition they did not choose but a sentence imposed on them by biology.

Friend of mine says something like the prevalence of homosexuality in the Roman and Greek civilizations demonstrates this as a matter of choice. Why has it not been constant and as highly practiced as in the days of those civilizations?

Dr. R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, writes,

How can this be done? "This entails publicizing support by moderate churches and raising serious theological objections to conservative biblical teachings." [The latter of which attempts homosexuality and biblical interpretation examine and expose.][50]
Kirk and Madsen's open admission of their deceptive tactics is noted as most revealing: [O]ur effect is achieved without reference to facts, logic, or proof. "...the person's beliefs can be altered whether he is conscious of the attack or not"[51] “The campaign we outline in this book, though complex, depends centrally upon a program of unabashed propaganda, firmly grounded in long-established principles of psychology and advertising.”[52][53]
Similarly, author Robert Bauman additionally records: "It makes no difference that the ads are lies... because were using them to ethically good effect, to counter negative stereotypes that are every bit as much lies, and far more wicked ones."[54]
The need for Kirk and Madsen to engage in such manipulation may be seen as being due to their sober realization of the nature of the homosexual lifestyle.

David Kupelian, author of The Marketing of Evil, describes Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen, stating,

Kirk, a Harvard-educated researcher in neuropsychiatry, work with the Johns Hopkins Study of Mathematically Precocious Youth and designed aptitude tests for adults with 200+ IQs. Madsen, with a doctorate in politics from Harvard, was an expert on public persuasion tactics and social marketing.[56]
Marshall Kirk died in 2005 at the age of 47.[57] The cause of death has not been publicly revealed.

Question...is it possible that the stress on a mother is transferred to a fetus...the fetus learns from that stress and it creates or alters its normal development and thus it is born with a learned behavior that is abnormal? Then, as the baby/child develops and the mother’s behavior or stress continues and reinforces what was learned in the womb, it then pushes the child down a path towards homosexuality? Not saying at the decision point on whether or not to engage in the homosexual act is not a choice. Thoughtful responses are appreciated and I would prefer to take religion out of the debate, although I am a practicing Christian.
Let’s use Darwinian Natural Selection Theory. All life exists to REPRODUCE itself. Defective Non-Reproducing offspring are Eliminated from the gene pool.
How could the So-Called “Gay Gene” be passed on, generation after generation, if the possessor of that gene were not able (willing) to merge it’s genetic material with a suitable FEMALE partner.
Evolution (if true) is supposed to produce an ever more adapted individual.
If you are too stupid to know which hole to put it into, Natural Selection would quickly erase your kind from existence.
Same Sex attraction tendencies are the result of Pscho-Social Influences, Not a complete “wiff” on the part of “Natural Selection.”
Here’s the deal:
If there is a gay genetic marker than can be identified, we can determine who is gay. Anyone who is gay that doesn’t have the marker proves that being gay can be a choice.
Gays will never accept that so a marker will never be found.
