Eric Erickson is a good ole evangelical. Anything that deviates 1% from scripture he’s going to put down.
It’s a great movie. Saw it this morning. Be sure to read what most evangelicals ignore “This movie was INSPIRED by the biblical account of Noah”. Absolutely great special effects and Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly should be nominated for academy awards.

You saw a different movie that I did. I loved it, but then again I had no illusions of it being 100% based on scripture.
And the movie was definitely about God destroying the world because of man’s wickedness. Crowe and Connelly should be nominated for academy awards.

It’s accurate and I think most people coming out of the theater will be wondering what the heck they just watched.... It just didn’t compute.

I don’t even know what they spent 100+ million on. Maybe I was just too bewildered to appreciate whatever special effects there were.

Man’s wickedness in eating meat and picking flowers LOL.

Seriously, glad you liked it and I’m sure others will as well. But it just left me scratching my head.

So you didn’t didn’t hear Noah explaining man was killing man and had no respect for others and THAT WAS THE PRIMARY REASON that God ended it all. He said it more than once.

In the end, I believe that admission will...and should...cost them tens of millions of dollars at the ticket counter.

Same here. I told my wife just yesterday that I would not go see that if they were paying us, and I mean it.

To be fair this actually was an issue.....

Really? Where does it say that in the Bible?

I agree that there was good acting. I said as much...some of it very compelling.

I also believe that the movie was about the “Creator” destroying the earth because of wickedness. I just pointed out that there are some significant differences between what the movie describes as wickedness (not all mind you) and what the Bible describes as wickedness.

Finally, my biggest objection was the way it portrayed Noah himself. I understand artistic license was taken to humanize Noah and place moral dilemas in his path...but the very idea that he was bent on destroying all of mankind himself, and that his mission was to save the animals only, and even kill his own grandchildren, was just a step too far, IMHO. It resolved itself according to the Biblical account, but in getting there I feel it morphed Noah into something he was not.

Anyhow, the acting and the cinematography for the movie and the story it told was good. And a lot of the Biblical account was there...but there were some important distinctions and twists that will and have set off a part of their audience for the movie...and I understand exactly why...and, IMHO, that was a mistake on their part.

Does if bother you when Abraham is about to slice Issac’s throat? On the orders of God himself. Does it bother you that God would kill everything that moved on earth, except Noah and his family, because SOME PEOPLE HAD BEEN WICKED. Were the little kids that drowned in the flood guilty and did they deserve to die? These are all questions no one can answer. Guess why God allowed it to happen. One reason and one reason only. He’s God and we’re not and you can never question why He does something. In the movie when God revealed to Noah he wanted the world to start over, because of all the wickedness from humans, for all Noah knew God meant only for animals to survive. But he was also human, and he was overwhelmed with the enormous task that God asked him to do. But, in the end, love won out. I think it was a great movie. Noah was human.

Each has to come to their own conclusions. Of course Noah was human...never implied anything different.

But he was also God’s anointed and His purpose was to go through the flood and begin anew. I do not believe Noah ever doubted that part of his call...either for the animals or himself and his family. Each has to come to their own conclusions.

>> This movie makes the great sins of that day out to be, building huge cities,
>
> To be fair this actually was an issue and came up again in The Babel Incident... it was (is?*) directly an opposition to God's command to multiply, fill the Earth and subdue it.

Genesis 11:1-9 (New Revised Standard Version)
Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. And as they migrated from the east, they came upon a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”

The Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which mortals had built. And the Lord said, “Look, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is only the beginning of what they will do; nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. Come, let us go down, and confuse their language there, so that they will not understand one another’s speech.” So the Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Therefore it was called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.

My family and I will not be part of mocking God. This movie is a big skip for us. I don’t have a problem with a little artistic license, but this movie has the markings of a “piss on Christ” art work.
