Mayor Parker Announces Timeline For Adoption of "Human Rights Protection" (LGBT Ordinance)
City of Houston-Press Release ^ | April 3,2014 | Mayor Annise Parker

Posted on 04/27/2014 3:56:12 PM PDT by magna carta

The mayor’s timeline envisions presentation of the draft ordinance to public stakeholders and City Council committee on April 30, 2014 and placement on the council agenda for May 7, 2014. Although the exact language is still being finalized, the ordinance will prohibit discrimination in city employment and contracting, housing and public accommodations. This would include bars, restaurants, retail stores and businesses that provide services to the public. Complaints about violations of the ordinance would be reviewed by the City’s Office of Inspector General and a new seven member board known as the Human Rights Commission.

“A young African American should not be turned away from a club on Washington Avenue,” said Parker. “A returning veteran with a service dog should not be denied service at a local restaurant. An elderly woman should not be denied a job with the city. And, yes, a gay or transgender individual should not be denied the same rights enjoyed by all other Houstonians. It’s long past time that we ensure equal protection for all of our residents.”

Enact all the LGBT ordinances you want to. It provides for a good list to violate. I will not bow to their underhanded attempts to infringe on the first amendment and the right of freedom of expression (and personal opinions). This is the government our founding fathers warned us about is right on the head.

“housing and public accommodations.”

my mom applied to live in elderly housing. the application ask her to check off her race and it said it effects your preference on the waiting list. she asked what that meant, they told her it means you can get bumped by an affirmative action applicant.

so, I guess some of us don’t have protection to fair housing, but thank God the gay crowd will.

This destroys freedom of association, not that businesses have much left.

Elect a carpet muncher, get San Francisco “values” in deep red Texas. People tried to tell Houstonians this when Parker first ran, but they didn’t listen. Idiots. WAY too late now.
