The only thing similar I could find was American Indian style Persian rug, also the color pink I think is very unusual, the main features look a little like a llama but not much like the Peruvian style. I would to find the answer of where this rug is from, I think it is made of silk.

I’d say Midwest U.S., Ohio perhaps.

It appears to be a hand woven Persian prayer rug. An antique dealer would tell you, “worthless...uhm...how much do you want for it?”

It is middle Eastern. My guess is Buttuglystan.

For insurance purposes if you believe the rug is valuable you will need to have it professionally appraised by an appraiser who is experienced in evaluating such textiles. It will cost you as a full professional appraisal is not cheap. But if it is valuable it will be worth it.

If you don’t want to have it appraised you might want to see if any of the “Antique Roadshow” style shows are coming to your area and try to have it looked at there.

Contact one of the traveling antigue shows like Antique Road Show. They will tell you who is an authority in your area!

As a weaver my opinion is the warp threads (vertical) shouldn’t be all white in a hand woven rug.
Very carefully pull some fibers out of the fringe. Take them to a sink along with a match or small lighter and very carefully light the fibers. If they burn and stink, the fiber is silk, or wool. If they shrivel or melt into a ball, the fibers are manmade, and the rug is a modern machine produced imitation. Make sure the water is running and be careful. Use the longest fibers you can get.
Let us know what you find.
