i faxed my accountant the letter this morning and have been on the phone with him...not to thrilled as I always told him I’ll pay a little more so no red flags pop up and his response was “you have a bit of work to do”...

Then why are you worried? Your account wouldn't have claimed a deduction unless he had the document in front of his face.
You have to maintain tax records for 3 years, so either he or you must still have them ... get them.
But if he took (suspect) deductions w/o your knowledge, then he's on the hook, not you.
