Tal. Hey bro.
I want to talk to you for a minute.
I read your article, Why Ill Never Apologize For My White Male Privilege. First off, congrats on landing an article on Time. Thats huge.
And I get it, dude. Youre annoyed with the check your privilege line. Hey, I am too. I think its overused, and its basically turned into a meme at this point.
I read your piece. Youre Jewish. Your family, or at least your family a couple generations ago, had it pretty damn rough. And your dad worked his ass off so that you could have the opportunities that he didnt. Thats great.
But, I want to talk about this line right here:
It was [my grandparents] privilege to come to a country that grants equal protection under the law to its citizens, that cares not about religion or race, but the content of your character. This is where you messed up, bro.
This country actually does care about your race. A lot.
You brought up some of the horrors of the Holocaust. Thats a pretty heavy card to play off the bat, but its not going to work on me.
I forgot to tell you: Im black. And I bet you can already guess where Im going with this. You want to tell me about the systematic extermination of six million? I see that and raise you to ten million. You want to talk about a few years of forced labor? Lets try for a few hundred. You seem to be able to trace your familys history back pretty far. Thats awesome. I cant, because they didnt really keep records for property like that back then.

I’m thinking it may have been the Ethiopian famine? It does sound familiar.
I seem to recall boxer Muhammad Ali (formerly Cassius Clay) expressing that sentiment rather than a reporter.
Could have been. It was the image of the bodies floating by that stuck in my mind. I have tried to search for it, but had no luck.
Total fiction. Even a left-wing academic with a motivation to boost the numbers could only come up with . . . "up to" 4 millions over 400 years on 4 continents. You want to tell me about the systematic extermination of six million? I see that and raise you to ten million.
. . . and there have never been as many Jews in the world as there have been blacks, either - the six million figure was most of the Jews in all of Europe. So that is strictly an apples-to-oranges comparison. The real objection to this guys point is that although he shames the Jew for playing the victim card, he isnt ashamed of playing it himself, whereas he understands quite well that the Jew understands the self-destructive tendency inherent in it.
Fundamentally, his problem with the Jew is precisely that the Jew's family history indicates that victimhood can be transcended - but he prefers to profit from victimhood rather than to transcend it.
I also remember when the US empassy in Iran was first taken over, Mohammed Ali, to his credit, called those thugs and the ayatollah a “disgrace to islam”.
Grandpa was Irish, so no sympathy Dex. We didn’t get affimative action either.
VERY profound point. Thank you. Wish FR had a "LIKE" button.
