What would the world look like if we were all liberals?

I got to thinking the other day- what if we were all liberals? What would the world look like? Before you get riled up, read on.

What if all men were Bill Clinton?

We could talk up women's rights but in real life take advantage of young women, be sexual predators and serial harassers.

What if we were all Nancy Pelosi?

We could claim to support unions but we would use non-union labor. We could use our positions in government to help boost our net worths by 62% in the middle of a recession.

What if we all Tom Steyer?

We could claim to be all for green causes but make a billion dollars on coal.

What if we were all Al Gore?

We could sell books and make vast fortunes shrieking about global warming while we used ten times the electricity of normal people in our mansions and we could spew tons of pollutants into the atmosphere flying on private jets instead of flying commercial. And we could buy make believe idiocies such as "offsets."

What if we were all Barack Obama?

We could claim to support equal pay but in real life not pay women the same as we paid men. We could lie to everyone all the time while asserting that we are paragons of virtue. We could lament "dysfunction" in government and wealth inequality while charging $64,000 per couple for a "VIP Clutch" and mingling with the top 0.01% of wealth in the country in Hollywood, the bastion of reality. We could lament dysfunction while being the cause of it. We could make statements that all had expiration dates.

What if we were all Rosie O'Donnell?

We could assert that we opposed guns while we all owned them.

What if we were all Piers Morgan?

"What would the world look like if we were all liberals?"

Yep, a modern day Detroit-NAZI Germany just about sums it up.

A bit before my time, I suppose, but in reading novels from the mid-20th century, one gets the clear impression that in much of America you could just head out the door, start driving, and anywhere you stopped you could find a cheap place to stay, some sort of employment, and a halfway decent life. You could stay or go and eventually settle into a life that suited you. Perhaps that wasn’t the case in reality as much as it was in books and on TV, but it wasn’t a totally ridiculous notion. Today — can you imagine just saying, “I’m driving west; got no real plans, but I think it’ll work out OK”? America is just very different now.

Exactly. You are exactly right. It REALLY was the Golden State. From WWII to the 1990s the state was an economic dynamo. Now Texas is having our lunch. What’s so nauseating is when a huge Fortune 500 company like Occidental Petroleum decides to move from L.A. to Houston, the attitude among most politicians seemed to be: Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. They don’t care. Their hatred for the oil industry trumps any sense of rationality, jobs, or economy.

I was picturing the “Do What You Feel Festival” from the Simpsons.

I can assure you (probably without you needing any assurance) that millions and millions and millions of people did EXACTLY that.....at least as far as CA is concerned. I make no claim that you could go to KS and think you would get into the electronics business.

And millions and millions of those people caught onto something, found somewhere they could figure out a way to feed their faces, hang out for a while, put some money away, get a better job, and develop a middle class lifestyle over some period of time. A period of time less than it takes for a Bachelor of Arts in subliminal heterogenderism, that I will assure you.

I don’t care what it would be like because I wouldn’t be there.

It was just like that. The fifties were my prime years and we could go anyplace and do just about anything.

The world was our oyster and we all came from nothing and did quite well.

When I was in my late teens/early 20s, my friends and I had all come to California from other states. We graduated high school, drove or flew out here, and got jobs and apartments right away. We had leverage...if we didn’t like one job, we quit and easily got another. We didn’t live like royalty, but we lived well. We had reliable cars, we went to the movies, went out to eat, had spending money.

Nowadays, many young people can’t even move out of Mom’s house unless they get six roommates. They send out hundreds of resumes and can’t get hired. They have college degrees but end up working at Starbucks, and are darned grateful for it. Not true of everyone, of course, but many that I see.

You’re right. America is very different now.

Civillization would return to the Dark Ages but without that age’s comforts, liberty, or security.

Do you remember the statement, “As California goes, so goes the rest of the country”?

That scares me.
