Thought it might be an interesting and instructive poll, especially for guests who come and read.
I have broken it down into broad categories covering the 6 major branches of the service. And if anyone thinks that Military spouse or parent is not a bona-fide branch of the military - I am sure some of the wonderful parents and spouses will set them right in short order!
I have given everyone two votes, as there may be overlap between the categories in some cases. Poll runs for 10 days, and guests are welcome to vote. As always, inter-service rivalry in the comments is expected!

Lovely, it left off the US Coast Guard. Dink.

Coast Guard Grabbed me off a sandbar and took me home while I was being shot at in the Mekong. Did’nt know a boat had .50’s on it.

What a difference President Reagan made in building our military, most remarkable.
And now it is being torn down again, all we need in this country is a Constitutional LEADER, one to stand in the gap.
And how about those who work to honor the active duty military and the veterans?
I am a former military wife and mother and niece of an MIA who was awarded the DSC and 2 Purple Hearts. For years I worked through patriotic organizations: VFW-Aux., KWVA,FOFD (Friends of Freedoms Defenders)VAVS Volunteer, Charlie Norwood VAMC, Augusta, GA., Horse Creek-Midland Valley Veterans Park (fund raiser and program planner and lots of things in between for that)Aiken County Veterans Council and served as their Fisher House fund raising chairman, Korean-American Cultural Foundation and worked with the MOPH National and KWVA Dept. of Florida in bringing 90 Koreans to honor the Korean War Veterans in 9 cities and organized 44 KW 50th Commemorative Committees in GA. and SC.
Many others, who never served in the military either, worked in these organizations and others to provide care, encouragement, comfort and honor for our active duty military and veterans. That is a form of service too but for most of us who serve in some capacity along those lines, the reward is in the serving.
Agree here. They count parents and spouses, but not kids? Take it from an AF brat, kids "serve" just as much as parents and spouses.
Lots of army folk in my family, a navy or two, I was a black sheep as was my nephew, Marines.
Lots of uncles and such were mostly army and served during WW2.
Semper Fi
Ya need those 50s for flying Asian carp. GOD BLESS.
Thanks for your service.
The USCG was running 82’s up the rivers. The USCG ran a lot of the higgins boats on D-day. Some of my friends ran patrols on oil platforms in the gulf during desert storm.
They do a lot more than just tow in fishing boats.
You should have your links to your writing back on your homepage, I remember loving every minute of reading that!
U.S. Navy 1969-1991 Grateful that I retired before women were allowed to serve on men of war and that George H.W. Bush signed my retirement certificate instead of the bent one.
