"Global warming" plays directly on people's fears, but it's also easier to ridicule. "Climate change" packs less of an emotional punch, but it's harder for people to shake off, since "climate change" can be going on even if people don't feel a warming trend.
Your guy wants to put his best foot forward and use the slogan or label that helps him more. People do that. It doesn't mean that they're fated to win.
Movements, parties, and the two sides of political debate go through their ups and downs. Sometimes it seems like they're bound to win and can do anything. Sometimes they look like hapless fools who can't do anything right. A few labels don't affect the cycle much.
Step away from the computer and go take a walk. You're hyperventilating.
As I said in post #5, I was simply being histrionic to make a point. But the fact remains, having people using this
in the way this guy takes nothing for granted, is involved in nothing but trying to find a solution where none is needed
is cause for concern.
Wouldn’t you like to have cheaper oil to burn? If we get the pinheads on board with nuclear power, that reduces demand for other fuels, lowering prices.
On the other hand the dirty little secret is that even going nuclear will not reduce the world’s carbon footprint, because it would create economic development; some of which will be spent burning more carbon.
The only truly real way to reduce carbon emission is to kill billions of people and drive billions more into poverty and starvation.
I don’t give a rats ass about reducing carbon or C02!!
It’s a total nonssue.
Its kinda cloudy outside....what caused THAT?
“There is common ground, we just have to be willing to strive for it.”
I only wish it were so.
Safe affordable alternative energy is not the goal of the clean green team. It is the elimination of industry on the way to the elimination of most humans.
Exactly. This needs to be politely and repeatedly pointed out to them and eventually it may start to sink in.
If you call them out as morons, they won’t listen because they know there is no common ground. If you tell them, “Wow, I agree that this is important, and the only realistic and humane way to solve it is to promote nuclear power, so let’s push for that” then it might start to sink in if they hear it from multiple people.
Deep down they want to feel like they made the world a better place. Their energy just needs to be redirected away from destroying civilization and toward something useful.
In a way, you are wasting your time and energy by pointing out how stupid they are, because they just can’t conceive of what you’re saying. Did you know that this is exactly how Margaret Thatcher and others (successfully) built a support coalition for nuclear power in Great Britain 40 years ago?
Well, I like your optimism.
I don’t think they are stupid, so I don’t point out their stupidity, I’m wasting my time and energy pointing out their evil intentions.
I don’t know, but yer likely to be taxed for it.
;-)
“...That’s why we’re screwed....”
Screwed, yes. For now.
“...we’re not going to make it simply because of complete and utter idiots like this guy. ...”
We’ve been through worse. We’ll weather this as well.
One way or another, the hard way or the soft way.
We’re Americans - nothing is impossible to us.
