What’s the story on the first colt with 2;17 TIME? Its that an error? Must be since later it gives the time of 2:28 as setting a Belmont record. That was before Secretariat, of course.

The blog says that that earlier race from 1917 was 1 3/8 miles before they changed the distance to 1 1/2 miles.

The Belmont has had varying distances. Some were as high as 1 5/8 miles. That race was 1 3/8 miles.
The standard became 1 1/2 miles in 1925.
