When the immortal pacer Dan Patch fell ill in 1904, news of his malady traveled across the nation as racing fans and the public at large anxiously sought out the slightest scrap of information about his condition. Of course, at a time when Ty Cobb, the country’s highest paid baseball player made $12,000 per year, Dan Patch was earning $1 million! And stories of Dan’s successes on the track were regularly printed above those of Cobb on the nation’s sports pages.

There’s one other breed that we reccomend,the Missouri Fox Trotter.We own one,he’s the equine good will ambassador.He’s gaited,calm,and is willing to work with anybody.His attitude is not an anomily,all the Fox Trotters I’ve ever worked with are just like him.

Walkers are also sensible horses and of course, I do not refer to the altered things you’d find in the ring.

A neighbor had a field full of TWH mares and stallions and any one of them, I could catch and ride even though they’d never been trained or ridden, before.

I think you would love riding our mustang mare.She not wild eyed,but is she ever fast.She’s the result of hundereds of years of careful breeding(the Spanish knew what they wanted in a horse and worked to get the right animal)and it shows.When I ride her it’s a partnership,and she does everything right.
I’m very aware of the mustang heritage.

The horses of my youth were an American Saddlebred/Arab mix mare and a QH/App gelding.
Both were fast and hot and we all mutually adored one another.
I did not ride them like my dad did and they would always perform much better and more willingly for me, much to his annoyance.
We were always of one mind and one heart.
He just got on and forced them to his will.
I always ‘took them into account’, as it were.
I miss them every day.

Native Dancer was Vanderbilt’s great colt who lost his bid for the Triple Crown in the Kentucky Derby when he finished 2nd to Dark Star. Native Dancer had been badly bumped just after the start.
Northern Dancer was the foal of Natalma who was by Native Dancer.

From what I heard the recent breeding of horses stresses speed and not endurance.
