Kino Teens bring youthful zeal to immigration reform efforts

NOGALES, Mexico (CNS) — In a soup kitchen just across the U.S. border, Nicole Davison sat down at a table lined with men.

There was a clatter of plates as the guests who were served dinner help clear the dishes. The guests all had been recently deported from the United States.

Davison, 19, learned that one man had been working in the U.S. for more than 20 years, and that his wife and children were at home in Scottsdale, Arizona.

A Mexican without a U.S. visa or work permit, the man was now stuck here, where he knew no one.

“It’s very sad,” said Davison, as she and other members of a group called Kino Teens departed the “comedor,” the kitchen and dining hall of Centro de Atencion al Migrante Deportado (Aid Center for Deported Migrants) in Nogales, in the state of Sonora.

Kino Teens was created five years ago at Lourdes Catholic School in Nogales, Arizona, a couple of miles away on the other side of the border. The group supports the Catholic-run Kino Border Initiative, working in Mexico and the U.S. for more humane and viable migration solutions. In Mexico the initiative operates the center and a nearby shelter for deported women and children.

The Kino Teens have a three-pronged approach — service, education and advocacy.

“We dedicate ourselves to follow in the steps of Father (Eusebio) Kino in his example of showing solidarity with those who are in less favorable circumstances,” said Gerardo Perez, a 17-year-old student.

It’s a club that fits in well with the mission at Lourdes, according to Sister Barbara Monsegur, the high school’s principal and a Minim Daughter of Mary Immaculate.

Somebody help me me here..From story..“I live on the American side, but I cross two, three times a week to visit my grandma or to hang out with friends,” he said. “For us crossing the border is something that happens every day.”....Mexico is so dangerous.Dreamers who leave than come right asking for Asylum as Mexico is so dangerous. How ever as indicate here many cross they stay until it's time to go..Another factor..........When people say migrants do not bring any added benefit to U.S. culture, Perez points to two values he has seen in most of the people he has met through Kino Teens: a strong work ethic and equally strong family values..With such outstanding qualities would it not be to Mexico's advanatage to keep said hardworkers, who have ,strong family values ,strong work ethic to remain in Mexico to start moving forward to making changes in the country ?When they say we emphasize with the students is that everyone is entitled to human dignity.” they should be directing this issue with Mexico's gov..Mexico cannot keep sending everyone over here..If America were sending the amount of people to Mexico under the guise of we send them there so they may have better life..How long would we last in Mexico before being booted out ?They should be preaching to Mexico about this and not sending us the problems to sort out and take care of.

If these values are so commonplace amongst the Mexicans, then why isn't Mexico the greatest country on earth?

Half-truths and lies.
Screw ‘em and shut down the border for a year or so. Let them decide whether they are American, or Mehhiccan. I’m tired of this bilingual, half-citizen bullshit.

Diane Feinstein visited Obama’s Human Pound in Nogales, AZ this week. She found that the flood of illegals was encouraged by information spread by Central American news media and the Catholic Church that there was no more deportation in the US.

Guess this KINO group will be out of business soon….and so will the U.S.A.

WoC Public Relations Services asks.. why just victims of the United States' evil anti-immigrant laws. What about all the other victims of the U.S.? So WoCPRS sends this PR out for free to all media.

Student group asks for some laws against theft be suspended for the unfortunate . . .

A father sits down for his noontime meal in county jail.. his family is alone on Thanksgiving Day. The man was now stuck here, where he knew no one. All he wanted was a turkey for his family's Thanksgiving and a flat screen HD TV to watch Thanksgiving Day football but both are expensive . . . why must the "haves" enforce their laws against obvious victims of America, students ask. The students have lobbied Republicans and Democrats alike for laws and enforcement policies that won’t divide families . . . .

” laws and enforcement policies that won’t divide families . . . .”

The “laws and enforcement policies that won’t divide families . . . .” already exist. The illegal immigrants refuse to respect the existing “laws and enforcement policies, and choose to divide their own families by putting themselves and their families in places they have no right to be in.

Boo frickin' hoo. He was here illegally, and now he's finally been deported. That's the correct price for being an ILLEGAL ALIEN, at least for now until Barky gets around to issuing another EO.

If he's so concerned about his wife (dollars to doughnuts another illegal) and kids, he can make arrangements to have them shipped to his current location and then he will have no more reason to whine.

My only regret is that it took 20 years to get rid of him. I have NO sympathy for his being in a situation of his own creation.
