( 'And that's what happens when they know you're recording': Cop caught by trucker for speeding and talking on his cell phone changes his tune when he sees camera ) A trucker was driving through Illinois last week when he says a police officer sped past him going way above the speed limit - while chatting on his cellphone.
Brian Miner decided to take the law into his own hands and honked his horn repeatedly, prompting the officer to pull over.
In a video posted to YouTube by Miner, the officer undergoes an amazing transformation once he realizes he's being filmed.None too pleased at being pulled over by Miner, the officer is confrontational and resorts to outright lies when Miner questions him on his actions. 'You pulled me over with your horn, I don't know what that was about,' says the officer. 'Because you were speeding and had your cellphone in your hand,' replies Miner. 'Police officers can actually use technology when we're driving,' the officer responds, stretching the truth somewhat. 'Oh, so you guys are above the law?' the trucker asks. The officer asks Miner for his license and the officer questions him on how fast he was driving. 'You passed me! Are you above the speed limit as well?' says Miner, adding that the officer was going well above 70mph, the speed limit.

Local police routine exceed the posted speed limit here by 10 to 15mph in non-emergency driving.See it daily.
In most states...there is a provision in the state code to allow emergency services to use cell phones. Sometimes it is a little hard to just pull over and talk. There provisions exempting them from seat belt usage ...under certain circumstances...as are taxis, school buses and such. Speeding? Not so much. Unless there is a call for service where it would be a good thing to get there without running lights and sirens. Obviously not the case here. That being said...most police depts require that you pull over when possible to use the phone...and wear seatbelts...insurance issues. Trust me...its distracting enuff to be driving...have a computer beeping and buzzing at you with information...the radio calling your number and trying to answer it. Little need for phone usage. Pull over.
What is the speed over the limit they actually enforce? If they give ten miles over the limit to non sworn people, that would be the norm...
Here in south Florida you will see these guys all the time on I-95 doing 80-90 or more, and they are wearing civilian clothes, not on duty.
Some police departments allow cops to use their vehicles as personal use vehicles to display constant police presence, but many of the LEO’s abuse the symbolism of the vehicle, they are worse than the crime they portend to defend against.
If you have ever been pulled over by them, the initial contact is civil, after that if you, ask questions or are perceived in any way as not being totally subservient, they are in your face arrogant, rude, and most threatening, as bad or worse than any gestapo you’ve seen in movies.
I have to wonder whether the capability to stream one’s audio and video to a archiving computer ....at another location, might not be a great asset in many cases.

The important evidence.... would then be available regardless of the location,....or condition of a phone.
The Big Business/Big Government folks who want to record everything employees do....will now have to fight Big Government/Big Government types who no longer want to be recorded by Big Business/Big Government folks....could get interesting
Or perhaps keep an old phone in the car also. Cop demands the phone, give 'em the old phone to play around with. But first be sure to fill it with 1000's of random photos.
This is the exact solution I came up myself. It would be very easy to have hidden microphones and even a camera that would stream the data directly to a server and even your personal lawyer.
It's time to start using technology to fight back.
Another idea would be to simply make a statement to the officer at the beginning of the traffic stop. "Please be advised this stop may be being recorded" and leave it at that. Let them guess as to whether the cameras are rolling or not.

It’s ILLINOIS. Crooks rule at all levels. I’ve lived in IL my whole 55 years so I have plenty of experience.
And recall from last week’s Supreme’s decision. Cell phones can not be searched without a warrant. Like that’ll stop any of them from trying.

Good idea. Perhaps we could pitch it on that TV show, Shark Tank.
There could be, for example, The "Dukes of Hazzard" package. The old cell phone could come prefilled with photos from the series. Pictures of the General Lee speeding, pictures of Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane in pursuit, etc.
The possibilities are endless.
