President of Green Party of Canada resigns over inappropriate Gaza comments

Green Party president even dared to mention the Hamas charter that calls not just for the destruction of Israel but for the obliteration of all Jews

Paul Estrin, the president of the Green Party of Canada, tendered his resignation Tuesday evening after an outpouring of complaints over a 2,200 word blog posting concerning the Israel/Gaza conflict. The posting, on the Green Party’s website, was of course removed but can be found on the site of the Centre of Israel and Jewish Affairs.

Estrin opposed the party line and made critical comments about Hamas, a recognized terrorist organization in Canada. He had the nerve to actually suggest Israel has a right to defend itself from terrorists. In his post he criticized neither the residents of Gaza, Palestinians or Arabs. His negative comments focused squarely on Hamas, the terrorists who currently govern Gaza.

that an army of sheep led by a single lion,
even if that lion be scrawny and damned-

is far more dangerous
than an army of lions
commanded by a sheep,
even if it be the flock’s mightiest ram.

‘Cause the herd that most choose
to blindly follow
can just as easily be led astray,

all it takes
is the proper bellwether,
who knows all the right things to say;

who deeply understands
that people don’t want to think for themselves,
nor for the real truth,
do they ever care to seek-

instead, it’s all about
the spoon-fed opinion
and manufactured, pitchfork mob outrage,
that happens to be most trendy this week.

all those following the herd,
whose slogans they constantly bleat,

and those, who’ll trade their individuality,
for the shallow acceptance they seek

Even in the Bible,
In First Peter, five and eight
Satan’s depicted as the roaring lion,
seeking whom he might devour

And also in John eight
and forty-four:
the idea of the thieving, deceiving predator,
who lusts for might and power

Yet the ancient Romans knew the truth
when they said:
it’s better to live a single day as a lion
than a thousand as a sheep.

Even if you’re the herd-ram
for those thousand days,
and all the ewes are in heat.

For a lion will understand
that comfort is slavery,
and freedom is never free-

and only when he casts
his fate to the winds
will he have a chance to be all he can be.

SECOND CHORUS:

who’ll dump their principles in a heartbeat,
when the majority no longer agrees

yet who encourage you to think for yourself
just so long as you don’t think too deep

And perhaps the harshest truth of all
faced by Comfort’s sons and daughters
when you choose to exist in the conformity of the herd
in the end, all sheep are slaughtered.
