Muslim Offended By The Word Bacon

A breakfast restaurant in Vermont helped plant flower beds in city traffic medians. For their efforts the city of Winooski allowed Sneakers Bistro a sign on a lamp post. The sign read “yield for Sneakers bacon.” This apparently caused one Muslim great offense. You see, Muslims don’t eat pork. The Muslim complained loudly online and the city and Sneakers Bistro relented, removing the bacon sign while loudly proclaiming they don’t get involved in politics. Who knew bacon was a political issue?

The mayor of Winooski, Kathrine Decarreau, believes the “cool part of living in a diverse community is that it’s not always comfortable.” Apparently that means that one person offended by the word bacon is allowed to make everyone else uncomfortable by forcing its removal from public view. We’re not talking about a strip tease or vulgar language, we’re talking about the word bacon. Are there a list of words that might cause Muslims, or others, such discomfort that they may never be uttered or written in public?

So fearful is the left of offending Muslims they’re willing to remove something as inoffensive as the word bacon from a sign. They pretend like they’re not engaging in politics when they remove the word but they most certainly are. They’re caving to imagined offense, bending over backwards for one person who is absurdly offended by the word bacon. No one is forcing this Muslim to eat or touch bacon, we’re talking about nothing more than a word on a sign.

If the word bacon is removed for the sake of Islam, what other words will leftists remove in order to feign uninvolvement in politics? Lobster, Jesus Christ, pulled pork, the list can go on and on. Interestingly, Jews keep the same or similar dietary restrictions. Jews have lived in this country since its founding (unlike Muslims) and we’ve never seen them demand words like bacon be removed from public view. It’s only Muslims, in this case one single Muslim woman. It doesn’t even matter that the sign is on public property, in America food ought to be treated as so inoffensive that no one can demand food terms be removed from public space.

Why is the left so afraid of offending Muslims? Do they fear this single Muslim woman will bomb this restaurant because they refuse to remove bacon from a public sign? Is the city afraid she will bomb city hall if they don’t remove the sign? The mayor believes diversity is great because it can cause some discomfort. Why is it that the majority must always be irritated or annoyed because a Muslim finds something as ridiculous as the word bacon offensive? As a society we have become so concerned about the offensive of an extreme minority that we fail to grasp how absurd the offense is. If one person can cry offense and force change over the word bacon, what words can’t people cry offensive over in order to push others around? It seems we’re headed to the point where no speech will be tolerated, lest someone be offended.

The next phase: demand that the B&B stop serving bacon or any other pork product. Then ban the sale of all pork products in the local stores. Why? At least one person will be offended if the product is served for breakfast or sold in stores.

The apathy in this country is contemptible. The cowardice is destroying the USA. If the Muslim b!tch does not like it, put her on the first available flight to Iraq. Problem solved.

Someone needs to explain to the mayor that her version of freedom is definitely NOT covered by the Constitution. By her definition, I would be able to throw into jail every Liberal in the country, because everything they do is offensive.

Folks of a similar mind,

Why not take the moment, and if you can spare it in this economy, to purchase a thin packet of SPAM, and wrap it up nice for the flunkies in dah post office, and send it to the mayor of the town, as a sign of your disgust?

Or, “as a community”, what about chipping in a dime (that’s ten cents, Jeannete), and purchasing that Muslim tw(i)t a one way ticket to Cuba!

I’ve got some more words for that Muslim to be offended by, but I don’t want to be suspended or banned!

Our Founders knew exactly what kind of demons these people were even back then. Why we’ve allowed them to infiltrate by the millions since WWII is beyond me.

If you say “salami wrapped in bacon” fast enough, it sounds like an Islamic greeting.

I ate at Sneakers once. Kinda ordinary omelette.

Winooski (named after the Indian word for onion, as in the Winooski river) has recently built upscale condos near the scenic falls nr the Burlington, VT line. Otherwise it’s fairly middle class, with restaurants like “Donny’s NY Pizza”—eaten there a few times. I think they had a sign saying “Watch All The Yankees Games Here”. Boo...as a Red Sox fan I suppose I should ask them to take the sign down, eh? Kidding.

A Winooski restaurant’s decision to take down a bacon advertisement has become the center of an online backlash.

“It’s blown up beyond all imagination,” City Manager Katherine “Deac” Decarreau said in an interview Monday.

Last week, Sneakers Bistro and Cafe removed a sign reading “Yield for Sneakers Bacon” from a garden at the Winooski Rotary after a woman who described herself as “a vegan and a member of a Muslim household” called the sign offensive in a post on Front Porch Forum.

“Given the large number of Muslim families in Winooski, as well as many others who do not eat pork for a variety of reasons, it seems unnecessary for this insensitive business sign to be at the city’s main crosswalk,” she wrote. The woman also complained that the sign “clutters an already dangerous crosswalk.”

Sneakers owner Marc Dysinger replied that the sign was meant to be fun and to show that the restaurant cares about Winooski and the gardens, but that it had lost its “relevance” due to recent traffic changes at the rotary. He apologized for the controversy.

“Our goal is to bring joy to Winooski as a community gathering place — never a source of stress or drama,” Dysinger wrote on Front Porch Forum. “We always appreciate any advice or input to help us achieve that goal. Thank you neighbors!”

A swarm of Internet comments followed the decision, which was reported by television station WPTZ and several national media organizations.

“We are here to serve people BREAKFAST, not politics,” Sneakers wrote in a Facebook post in response to the controversy that was cited in media reports before it was taken down. “We removed the sign that was located on public property as a gesture of respect for our diverse community. There were also concerns raised about safety. Removing it was not a difficult decision. We still love bacon. We still love eggs. Please have the political conversation elsewhere.”

The restaurant later took down the Facebook page, and the restaurant’s phone voicemail was full early Monday afternoon. Dysinger declined to comment further.

Facebook pages sprang up in opposition to the restaurant’s decision to remove the ad.

“Please try to tell as many people as you can around there about this ISIS loving anti-American business,” wrote one commenter. “Let’s run them out of business and then run the owners out if the USA. They can go open a place in Palestine.”

“Thanks for supporting and giving into the Muslims! I’ll never eat at your restaurant!” another commenter wrote.

“Let’s avoid the name calling and the other stuff,” warned the creator of a page called Tell Sneakers Bistro How You Really Feel.

The restaurant’s reviews on Google and Yelp have also taken a hit, with more than 50 recent one-star reviews referencing the controversy. Some of the Yelp users hail from as far away as California and Hawaii.

City Manager Decarreau said the city has no plans to make a policy decision on the advertisement, though she will be asking the Winooski Coalition for a Safe and Peaceful Community for advice.

“Like I said, it’s an issue of free speech, and I’m not sure where city government gets involved,” Decarreau said.

In a statement, Decarreau said she had read the original Front Porch Forum complaint differently than some commenters. “As I read her post, her request came as a vegan, not as a Muslim,” Decarreau wrote.

Decarreau said the city has received dozens of comments online and by phone.

“Winooski is a diverse community, and we like it that way,” Decarreau said. “It’s uncomfortable, but discomfort can be a source of growth, not just a source of anger and frustration. I think as a community we’ll work through this. It’s unfortunate that the country seems to be reacting to reports that are blown significantly out of proportion and don’t represent what actually happened.”

“We welcome a rich and respectful dialogue among the people that live, work and dine here,” Decarreau added in the statement. “We believe that diversity and dialogue is a critical part of what makes us a truly desirable place to be.”

Note that the need for tolerance never applies to Islam.

Think of it. She is so incredibly intolerant that she cannot tolerate the written word “bacon”.
