IT is often offered as a solution to the problem of destitute women. If every man married four of them, some have stated, then all women would have a male guardian, a protector, someone to support them.
The reality of polygamy, however, is often neither this neat nor this simple. Last week, The National, a leading newspaper out of the United Arab Emirates, published news of emerging research that reveals how polygamy is injurious to the mental health of women in such relationships, fostering negative emotions and ultimately creating harmful patterns that detract from having a healthy emotional life.
Conducted by Dr Rana Raddawi, an English professor at the American University of Sharjah, the study surveyed 100 Arab women who were in polygamous marriages and found that many of them were consumed by feelings of neglect and jealousy that severely impacted their lives and mental health. For Dr Raddawi, the inspiration for the study came from close to home. Having known several family members in such marriages, she wanted to focus on the emotional costs of polygamy, a facet she believed was largely ignored in other studies.
Despite religious injunctions to enact perfect justice among multiple wives, Dr Raddawi found that many husbands lapse in this regard. Many of the wives she surveyed complained not only that they did not see their husbands regularly but that they were negligent in meeting their financial and support obligations.
In several cases, men did not have the ability to support several households, in which case the amount of support received by a particular wife began to depend on whether or not she was able to cultivate favour with the husband. The consequent emotional issues caused by this state of affairs ranged from depression to anger, hysteria and even illnesses...

Any woman that falls for this has some serious self-esteem problems.
True. Now that homosexual marriage has been normalized, we can move on to polygamy.
And, because we have become so liberal and “non judgemental”, we will not be allowed to talk about any bad effects of polygamy such as stated in this article. Liberals effectively neutered us during debates about homosexual marriage, saying that rights are being denied, that it’s all about who you love, all about consenting adults wanting to live their lives together, etc. We were not allowed to talk about homosexual parenting, or other issues in the homosexual community or homosexual lifestyles.
So when the movement starts for polygamy, I predict we will similarly be neutered in not being allowed to discuss problems with polygamous relationships.
It is easy if you get each one of your wives to get on welfare like some do it in the US.

Homos are much more jealous and violent. You could never have a guy with 10 husbands. They would all kill each other in the most violent way possible. Knives are one of their preferred tools of death of homos because they are so much more personal. They hold the knife as they stab the victim and vent their rage that way. I know a guy who had a gay son that had a gay live-in lover. Seems his son wasn’t being “faithful”. They found him dead in his apartment with 35 stab wounds. The prosecutor got a conviction on the live-in lover when he held up a piece of cardboard in the courtroom and stabbed it with knife 35 times right in front of the jurors.
The long running polygamous show on TLC is proof that they all have mental health issues. As if any sane person ever doubted.
If Mormons have trouble with it, imagine what it must be like in Islam.
How is that different from a man with 10 “baby mamas” and dozens of children?

If you go to Islam’s website, they say that a man can take a second wife “when he becomes prosperous. “ Now that is an idiotic a concept as there could be, what wife is going to allow her husband to become prosperous?
Where does it say the wives were happy?

I, too, know of a case of polyandry. Two childhood buddies and a girl I knew in high school. The two men work as janitors. The 300-lb woman stays at home, usually refuses to appear in public. The daughter (now in her early 30s) is "married" to a girl ten years her junior. They ALL live in a ramshackle "ranch house" outside of city limits - think "Hooterville" with Charles Addams as your interior decorator.

The problem is not excess women, the problem (especially in India and China) is excess men!
Clearly the solution is polyandry, but that doesn’t work, because: biology.
Polygamy can work as a system, quite well I think. Men want more sex than women (generally), the women can work together to raise the children, etc.
Look, it’s a system, it’s been around in one version or another forever and probably will be forever.
However, the problem with polygamy is that it creates excess single men. And those are trouble the world over and everyone with 1/2 a brain knows that.
