Police lobby for law changes. Dumb politicians usually bend over backwards to give them what they want too, so they can say that they're "tough of crime" and be in campaign ads standing next to the local police chief.
Worst is when police lobby for gun control.

Must not happen very often WRT to radar detectors in personal vehicles since only Virginia and D.C. seem to outlaw them. I don’t believe a municipality can outlaw them when otherwise legal in the state.
