After the Election the Real Political Wars Begin

As it stands today, Republicans will add seats in the House and recapture the Senate on Tuesday.

However, the near-certainty is that those elections will be swiftly eclipsed by issues of war, peace, immigration and race, all of which will be moved front and center this November.

Consider. If repeated leaks from investigators to reporters covering the Ferguson story are true, there may be no indictment of officer Darren Wilson, the cop who shot Michael Brown.

Should that happen, militant voices are already threatening, “All hell will break loose.” Police in the city and 90-some municipalities in St. Louis County, as well as the state police, are preparing for major violence.

After flying out to Ferguson to declare, “I am the attorney general of the United States. But I am also a black man.” Eric Holder has once again brought his healing touch to the bleeding wound.

The RATS will be at war while the Pubs will be reaching across the aisle getting their hands ripped off.

Despite bright shiny objects drawing attention elsewhere, the quest by Iran to secure nuclear weapons with long-range delivery systems remains pivotal to America's security.

If Iran gets the bomb the balance of power around the Persian Gulf will be stood on its head, the flow of oil can be threatened and even choked, the economic implications for the West are dire. The acquisition by Iran of the bomb will reduce American influence while it sparks an arms race by surrounding nations to acquire the bomb thus generating another existential threat to America.

We cannot trust that the leaders of Iran are rational enough to refrain from using the bomb because of fears of retaliation. Nor can we trust that the leaders of Iran would not hand off the bomb (or bombs) to terrorists who could easily ship it to an American port or put it on a truck and cross the Mexican border.

Pat Buchanan, one of the five wisest columnists currently in the business, just has got it flatly wrong about Iran just as he had it right about Iraq. Buchanan does not believe in any of the dire consequences cataloged in the first paragraph of this reply. If he is right, the sun shines but of the has it wrong, a real threat to American security and power in the world will cause us generations of suffering if not actual nuclear war.

To believe that the American side of the negotiations with Iran are being pursued with the interests of American in mind, that is, with the idea that Iran must not get the bomb, is to be blind to the lies of this administration. It is easily predictable that the Iranians will stonewall Obama and he will contrive some sort of face saving assessment of the negotiations to permit Iran to continue building its bombs.

A new Republican Senate led by Mitch McConnell will not have the stones to take Obama on about this issue and it will be left with true patriots to call out the truth to patriotic Americans, but their warnings will be in vain because the media will not amplify them, and the Republican establishment will not endorse them.
