The Incurable Disease -- Government Spending
Radix News ^ | November 3, 2014 | Ben Carson

I have had a fulfilling career as a pediatric neurosurgeon, which unfortunately included numerous instances where worst-case scenarios played out in the operating room. Good surgeons plan ahead for these possible events so that bad outcomes are minimized. But of course, few treatment plans will succeed if the doctor continually fails to make a proper diagnosis before surgery begins.

When I look at our nation’s massive federal debt, it is clear that Washington has chronically misdiagnosed the situation, which has resulted in a seemingly never-ending cycle of borrowing and spending. Much like a life-threatening disease, if the underlying cause is left unaddressed, patient recovery seldom occurs.

Bold leaders in both parties have warned for years that entitlement spending is the major driver of unsustainable deficits, and they have further advised that Washington implement policies to address this problem. While it is distressing to see continued inaction, what troubles me more is that virtually no one has addressed the underlying cause. In other words, why were programs created in a manner that they would eventually become so financially upside-down that our entire economy would be in jeopardy?

The disease of uncontrollable government spending (and the progressive state it supports) can be cured very easily.

End the Federal Reserve and return to non-fiat money. No more money printing, no more politicized interest rates, and no more massive gov’t debt means government will naturally shrink.

With this article, I have a big problem with Ben Carson.

As a physician...an educated man ostensibly a Conservative, the FIRST analogy that should have come from him is ‘Government Spending is a Cancer’, not an incurable disease.

The cancer has spread to retirees of the Baby Boom generation and spreading exponentially through the population.

I thought Ben could address the problems in DC; I guess I was wrong.

As Dr. Carson can verify, withdrawal of tax money results in cessation of government funding(spendulation). While short term spendulation may occur after withdrawal of tax funding, eventually, spendulation ceases.

Two separate issues.

Regular people will eventually reach some stage where they’ve spent all of their money and all the money that credit organizations will give them, and finally hit rock-bottom. Reality sinks in, some finance guru will talk you through this mental state, and you will hit a Dave-Ramsey moment where you realize how stupid you were.

The regular people will go through two paths then. One path is the slow and long path to get out and recover...never to climb into the credit pit again. The other path is simply living off some parent, relative, or friend....then closing the chapters ahead as non-attainable. They don’t get credit or money...they just sponge.

The government is the one with the absolutely incurable disease, because they simply invent new and more money to replace what isn’t there. Or they tax you via new methods...telling you that industry must pay more, but industry builds their tax requirement into each product, so you the private consumer pay their tax for them.

You nailed it, Carson didn’t. Few people understand that under our current monetary system, if debt disappears so does the supply of money, because under this system money and debt are essentially the same thing. Of course, who can blame them? The powers that be don’t even want the relationship between money and debt to be taught, even in college level economics classes.

Fine man. Brave. Many are impressed by his resume which is fine. What we need is someone who is brave enough to point to Cloward Piven. As Lincoln said, if we should ever be undone it will be we, ourselves who commit suicide. Our next Reagan needs to point this out. The folks who started the ball rolling on this spending were enemies within. THAT is your “correct diagnosis”. We let them suck our blood for decades. Repairing the damage will take decades, likely. Failing to point this out, ignoring history, will put a Band Aid on an arterial bleeder. It may slow the dying down but it won’t stop it.

Some cancers are curable. By definition, an incurable disease is not.

It's a minor tweak to his message (the C-word beats the I-word, even though the I-word is by definition more frightening). What's your problem?
