I operate on the assumption that leftists are four years old emotionally, and as such they are narcissistic: they perceive things as either all-good or all-bad.
Let's take the leftist hatred of Christianity, which they see as the most horrible thing in the world. Why can they not see what Islam is? Because they can only perceive everything as good or bad, with nothing in-between. So if Christianity is evil ("spook in the sky," etc.) then Islam has to be good.
I think it's just that simple.
Right now leftists are overwhelmingly for open borders ("It's for the children"). But since they can only perceive good or bad, they can flip from one to the other in a heartbeat.
So don't be surprised if they flip from supporting open borders to machine-gunning illegal immigrants...in an instant.
The same applies to their support of anything. Once they get hurt (they can't tolerate any pain) they flip to the other side. Just like that.

Leftism can be defined simply, that it is a parody of Christianity. If you take the Bible, and replace every reference and instance of God with that of mankind, you have leftism in a nutshell.
Renouncing God, they imagine themselves as the all-powerful beings at the center of the universe. Thus they imagine that good and evil are just constructs, that don’t apply to them. And the *knowledge* of good and evil corrupt people from their natural state, which is living like animals, at one with nature.
This is how you get fools like Al Gore believing that man controls the weather, not just some insignificant part of it. In a manner of speaking, he is no different from Nimrod, who tried to build a tower tall enough to reach to heaven, figuring if he could climb to heaven that he would be “like God”.

As a side note to this thread, consider that Mark 7:10-13 shows that Jesus reprimanded the Pharisees for essentially driving a wedge between parents and their children. In the case of the USA, such “children” are now politicians and voters.

I have some issues with the article heading this thread. For one thing, just about all the liberals I know hate the Muslims about as much as they do Christians, they just talk about the Christian-hate more often because they have more dealings with Christians.
I also disagree with the claim that Liberals will do an about-face as easily as the author implies. While there were a few liberals I knew who were okay with the idea of retaliation for a few days or a few weeks after 9-11, by the time anything could practically be done, they were outraged and opposed and more convinced than ever that Bush was Pure Evil. It’s true fear may kick them into a panic mode where they’ll temporarily accept a conservative leader, it doesn’t last long.
IMHO, the reason liberals look like they switch positions so often is that they don’t HAVE many positions, and one of their fundamental positions is, “If you do something for liberal reasons, it’s good, but if you do The Exact Same Thing for conservative reasons, it’s bad.” They are much less interested in what works or what is being done than they are in who is doing it.
The author touches on that with the black and white thinking thing, but I don’t think he gets what liberals put into the “good” or “bad” categories. He’s assuming liberals care about what is being done; they really don’t. They care about why someone is doing it (or rather, about why someone SAYS they are doing it). To a liberal, words matter more than actions.
Which is why they love to pile on more laws, even when the current laws, if they were followed or could be effectively enforced, would solve the problem. The fact that most gun crime is committed by people who already have no legal right to own or carry guns, or the fact that most people killed with guns have ten felonies on their record (indicating that the real problem is the criminal lifestyle, not the gun), are “not interesting,” because the liberal goal is not to lower the inner city death rate, even though “save the children” is their rallying cry.
The facts are immaterial, because guns are scary, and therefore guns need to be eliminated. They don’t like guns, therefore anyone who likes guys is, by definition, a bad guy. Because they divide the world along black and white lines based not on people’s positions so much as on their feelings; people who feel the way they do (or at least who claim to feel that way) are GOOD. People who disagree about anything important to them, are BAD.
And GOOD people do GOOD things, even when those things would be evil and wrong if done by a bad person. Which is why Guantanamo Bay was BIG TIME BAD when Bush ran it, and needed to be closed down, but once Obama came along it was magically made okay, and no longer worth fussing about, and why the anti-war movement evaporated entirely after Obama was sworn in.

Not in my experience. The ones I encounter are perpetual apologists for them and making them into another leftist victim group despite the daily horrors they commit.
ideology always outstrips reality and common sense to leftists and everything they stand for is HATE for others.
