As reported in The Boston Globe:
"What in Gods name is Pope Francis, a Jesuit, doing? Does he understand the outrage of parents worldwide at rampant priest child abuse? Pressures beyond Vatican control, as I discuss in detail below, can be expected soon to compel much more severe changes if Francis fails to act now effectively and transparently both to curtail child abuse and to make the hierarchy, including himself, accountable to independent Catholic oversight.
This governmental pressure has already begun to be applied with respect to Vatican finances, as a result of the continuing European investigations of multiple misdeeds involving both the Vatican Bank and the Vaticans own significant portfolio assets, as well as with respect to the investigation of the child abuse scandal by the remarkable Australian Royal Commission investing child abuse in organizations, including the Catholic Church.
Prospects worldwide for criminal prosecutions of Catholic Church officials have seemingly caused the Vatican to focus on overdue reforms in ways that earlier financial penalties and even shameful publicity had rarely done, but has Pope Francis and his advisers yet gotten enough of the message? One must be skeptical here.

1 Corinthians 3:11-15 New International Version (NIV)
11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each persons work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be savedeven though only as one escaping through the flames.
If you’re comfortable with your works then God Bless You.
"Reverend" is only mentioned once in Ps. 111:9 (KJV) and then it is a reference to God. So no, no man should be addressed by that title. This is the same as Pope (papa meaning Father) or any "Most Holy . . etc" descriptions of any mortal sinful man. Only God is holy.
“Moreover, the Bible ALONE as the sole or ultimate rule of faith is not biblical. Period.”
Show me your Scripture to prove your point here is mine.
Galatians 1:8 New International Version (NIV)
8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under Gods curse!
Mark 7:7-9 New International Version (NIV)
7 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.
8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.
9 And he continued, You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!
2 Timothy 3:16 New International Version (NIV)
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness
Sorry, but there is only one Holy Bible and Scripture. You can claim that the Catechism falls into this category, but the Bible disagrees.
Thanks
The stupidity of comments like “funny hats” would embarrass the inhabitants of Democratic Underground. That some of you have absolutely no idea of European history and culture (or American culture for that matter!) has been a source of grief for me in all the years I’ve been on this wonderful site. What is it that makes so many Protestant freepers so ignorant?
Oh, please. I am Catholic....I attend weekly Bible study and read/pray my Bible daily. Get a life. These attacks on Catholics are unChristian and beneath a FReeper.
The Catholic Church is a cult
If it isn't DOCTRINE; then the pope is doing NOTHING in GOD's name.
He's just a mere sinful man like the rest of us.
(I got all this from reading Catholic explanations on FR.)
They falsely claim they wrote the bible but they don’t let their people read it because it condemns their religion...
If Methodists were members of a cult, I would hope that other denominations would try to set us free by telling us the truth.
This is not an attack on Catholics, it is a truth telling about the Catholic cult.
If the Catholic Church isn't a cult, then you have nothing to worry about.
But the fact that you are blind, indeed, resistant to any contrary information is proof of the cultic nature of Catholicism.
Never trust humans...they are fallen and will deceive you. Particularly Popes and Cardinals...
Only trust God.
Blind? Not an attack? Cult? LOL
What's so special about the humans you trust to tell you about God? From where does your authority about God come? How can I trust you, are you super human? Why should I or anyone trust what you have to say about God?
Don’t trust me...trust God’s Word (and not that of other men).
To paraphrase the late great theater producer Jed Harris: You are as ignorant as an Ubangi.
You can't expect a person in a cult to recognize that she is in a cult...or to even be willing to considered it.
That's one of the facets of a cult.
Signed, Ubangi.
I spent my career in NYC (I was a mathematical country hick...but had many years on Wall St).
I appreciate where you are coming from...but what the heck is your devotion to Church over Jesus. Prots don't but church ahead of the Lord.
Somehow the Catholic Church wormed its way between the True Believers and the Lord. And except for those who came to their senses...this is still going on.
I know you are schmart...you must be...you are from Joisey.
Take a long clear look at the Lord and what is standing between you and Him.
Your sincerely, Ubangi
As always, your Shavian wit astonishes me.
Having been back down South for a while now, I had forgotten how charming Yankee women are when they employ name dropping to overcome that nagging feeling of inferiority.
But, yes, you are correct in that my spelling is worse by an order of magnitude when I am tired (usually at night).
Um name-dropping means that you drop the name of a celebrity you actually hang out with. I do not hang out with Shaw and it looks like I won’t in the near future.
I’m actually in North Carolina at the moment enjoying Southern hospitality with people who like Catholics.
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
