How to build a more sensitive cop
cnn ^ | Dec. 4, 2014 | Cedric L. Alexander

CNN) -- The grand jury decisions not to indict officers in the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson and the killing of Eric Garner on Staten Island have been made. Unsurprisingly, some people agree with them and others do not.

But dwelling on disagreement distracts us from dealing with the larger question at hand. What happens next? The answer seems rather simple. It is putting a plan into action that will be the difficult part. How can we move forward to allow the police departments of Ferguson, Missouri, and New York and those in many other cities to begin better meeting the needs of the communities they serve?

For starters, we must enhance recruitment methods, provide initial -- and continual -- training in specific areas of cultural sensitivity, encourage police organization transparency, and build police department-community relationships that will foster the development of trust and true collaboration.

Training in cultural sensitivity and critical thinking are crucial to an officer's performance

Heck yes, if you're "culturaly sensitive", you can just talk the perp out of committing the crime; won't even have to carry a gun anymore...

I see rainbows and unicorns and hugs all around < puke>

...training in specific areas of cultural sensitivity...

Oh, blah, blah, blah. Let's waste some more money by throwing it at a touchy-feely solution. BS. I think the best thing is to put those mini video cameras on every police man and be done with it. If the public knows they're in place, it might affect the stupidity we saw in Ferguson and it would augment the legal action that seems necessary in NYC.

I wish these thug supporters would just SAY it. There is a large segment of the black population that wants NO police. Especially no white police. They say they want black police officers from the ‘hood who ‘understand’ them. Translation:if any police, we want thug-sympathetic police who will OVERLOOK most criminal activity. White man’s laws should not be upheld. Thugs want NO law enforcement, thug sympathizers will defend thugs above the laws. Let’s face it- in many cities it’s ‘Escape from New York’ time. Wall off neighborhoods that want anarchy and when they kill each other off, bulldoze and start over.

Yep. They should have a required sensitivity class, say, in about 6th grade (due to the high dropout/low graduation rate for high schoolers) in schools with higher minority enrollment, in which the students are taught all about how to cooperate with police. It should be made clear that resisting arrest actions on their part can escalate a situation to the point of them losing their lives. They should have to write essays examining whether it is worthwhile to risk their lives by resisting arrest, when they are being detained for some “minor” infractions.

“culturally sensitive” means

“understanding the propensity of certain demographics to commit crimes as part of their cultural expression”.

I guess it also means “and letting them get away with it”.

We should return to the concept that these are more “officers of the peace” than people focused on enforcement of every detail of a growing list of petty laws.

More “hug a thug” programs will be implemented. I have been to hundreds of hours of mandatory “Cultural Sensitivity” classes. The main point pushed is mostly white privilege and excusing actions such as those of Mike Brown. After all, it is cultural differences that cause this type of behavior.

One of these classes included a female “instructer” from Philadelphia that claimed to have been a witness to the murder of a police officer. She had become one of the people in charge of the local red cross. She later was indicted for theft of 80,000 from the red cross. Send me to more sensitivity classes. I will still not hug a thug.

yep... we just heard the sound of increased murders, muggings and mayhem in all inner cities..

I’m not a cop, but if I was, all my “giving a crap” just went out the window..

it’s going to be hands-off in the major cities from now on..and that won’t be official policy.. it will just be what actually occurs.

and then in 20 years or so the whole cycle will rinse and repeat again, with another guy like Guiallini coming along and cleaning up the streets, only to aggravate the next batch of Sharptons and community organizers.

there's a large segment of the black population that wants no police

And there's a segment probably just as large that wants law and order, but won't violate the "do not snitch" mentality.

That is, until something like the Anthony Sowell situation on the east side of Cleveland five years ago, when many decaying bodies were found. Who did the neighbors blame? Yup, the police for not keeping them safe.

How to feminize cops. The leftists never stop. First they Impose insane rules of engagement for our troops and now they will write ROE for our cops. Absolutely, everything has to be redesigned to meet their losers paradigm.

Six Alinsky Rules That Explain Obama’s Words and Deeds

(3). Change is brought about through relentless agitation and “trouble making” of a kind that radically disrupts society as it is.

Since both the middle and upper classes have none of the organizer’s passion for radical change, he must do his best to “stir up dissatisfaction and discontent [.]” He must “agitate to the point of conflict.” The organizer “dramatizes…injustices” and engages in “‘trouble making’ by stirring up” just those “angers, frustrations, and resentments” (117) that will eventuate in the “disorganization of the old and organization of the new” (116 emphasis original). He is determined to give rise to as much “confusion” and “fear” as possible (127).
