I would hire someone in a jester hat before hiring someone wearing a clip on tie any day. A clip on tie is a dead giveaway that you are a complete roob.
Are you kidding??? The kid wearing the clip on tie is TRYING to conform to the traditionally accepted dress code for getting a job. He's got enough sense to know that it's not about "him" and what he likes to wear but about what is least offensive to and more acceptable to his employer and other people. The fact that it's a clip on only shows that he's young and didn't know how to tie a tie. This kid gets it. The moron who shows up in jester suit and demands that you take him as he is will end up having problems his entire life with employment and customer service and will invariably end up blaming others.

Maybe he doesn't have a father to show how to tie a regular tie. That he cared about his appearance is more effort than what many interviewees put forth these days.
