The next guy will be another KGB goon, whoever is chosen by however Mafias choose their next leader.

Very true.

This is, however, what is important. From the perspective of the western interests, some mafias are better than others. If, for example, pragmatic oligarchs who want access to the Riviera and Davos won over the guys who like to roll around in tanks, that is good news.

Never count a commie out until you have personally put a stake through their heart and waited a couple of hours to make sure that they don’t rise from the dead as did Lenin, Mao and Ho Chi Minh, among others. Batista should have shot Castro and Che when he had them. Lesson not learned.

Unlike Liberals who die only to rise each and every election day.

We will soon see if Putin is in charge or if it is someone else at the top; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergey_Shoygu or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergei_Ivanov .

If we guess that Sergei will take over it is most likely correct.

This https://www.gwu.edu/~ieresgwu/assets/docs/demokratizatsiya%20archive/08-2_Karasik.PDF 14 year old paper about Putin and Shoigu could have been written recently.

Pu does indeed wait before pouncing, (being a judo wrestler) but this is too long and weakens his image considerably if he survives. The question becomes: this is supposedly the head of a superpower with nukes and he goes in hiding for a week while his subordinates are squabbling?

Never count a commie out

There was, I believe, an old maxim by W.F. Buckley: any organization that is not definitionally and avowedly anti-communist becomes communist over time. Such was the Russian Federation's fate.

We will know at latest March 18, as it will be a parade then, and resurrection of old Kremlinologists.

The Commune of Paris day. They planned a parade? How quaint.

Do you hold out hope, like I do, that some in Russia aren’t willing to let Iran drag them over into the abyss over some idiotic 12th Imam?
