Starbucks joins the race debate as clashes in Ferguson and elsewhere escalate tension

Starbucks' campaign aimed at encouraging people to talk about race relations in the U.S. is the latest example of a big company trying to tie its brands to big social issues.

But the move, which has sparked backlash on social media, also illustrates how those efforts can fall flat if customers don't see a clear correlation between the cause and the company's products.

U.S. workers for the coffee chain that is best known for its Frappuccinos have been told to write "Race Together" on cups. The company also plans to start publishing "conversation guides" on the topic, with questions like "How have your racial views evolved from those of your parents?"(continued)

“How have your racial views evolved from those of your parents?”
Mine have devolved.

I think liberals would also say that my racial views have devolved, not evolved.

Back in my parents day, the civil rights movement was working to eliminate rampant discrimination based on race and ethnicity. My parents were liberal on racial issues then, as they supported the movement for equal rights for the Negro people.

Contrast with what is going on today. The Negro people are now called black or African-American. Equal rights under the law are in place, and have been for decades. Policies such as affirmative action have been around for decades, seeking to give a hand up to people previously discriminated against.

Today, we are told that we are racist if we don’t accept the social pathologies of ghetto culture. We see all this gang activity and baby mama stuff going on, but we are called racist if we point out that these actions on the part of people are key reasons why so many black people are out of the mainstream in this country.

I think my late parents would not be so liberal on race matters today.

I myself look back at the history, and believe in the concepts of equal rights under the law, and see merit in the civil rights laws of the past.

But to me, it’s absurd to say that the problems of black America are due to racism. Not after decades of broad civil rights laws and broad adoption of affirmative action.

Fine looking place.
Far as I know, we don’t have them here in Ventura County, CA, but we do have Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.
It’s probably just this location, but CBATL for a while some years back provided material to write to the Troops - now that’s a hero place to me!

This could be turned around on them very easily. Just ask...

“Did you know that the black community is responsible for fifty percent of the murders that take place in America?”

or

“Did you know that the black community has 73% out-of-wedlock birth rate?”

Watch their reaction and laugh.

2. Is asking for my coffee black racist?
3. Do I get a discount for agreeing with you?
4. Who is an acceptable target for our five minute hate?
5. What is next week’s litmus test for customers?
6. Is it racist to assume that all white people are guilty of something by virtue of their skin color?
7. Is a bi-racial person due reparations to themselves?
8. Can white people call blacks racist for refusing to tip?
9. Do I get a tax write-off for this sermon?
10. At least the Salvation Army’s coffee is free after the sermon. Why are you charging me for yours?
11. How much do you think this will help Dunkin Donuts’ sales?
12. If you can guilt trip me on race, can I guilt trip you on voting for Obama?
13. While we’re talking about race, what do you think of black on Hispanic crime?
14. With a black president, black attorney general and 40 years of affirmative action, why do you think white people are still privileged?
15. How much of what you attribute to racism is actually class-ism?
16. Do poor whites have to pay reparations to Oprah?

When asked by a barista about, while paying for your overpriced coffee, ask them how they feel about the race-baiters and Eric Holder causing property values in Ferguson to drop by $250 million? All because of a fake accusation od racism against the police.

Talk about heavy duty irony!

The family of the vicious thug that robbed the store who was racist against the white policeman should share in paying reparations to the families that lost property values- along with Al Sharpton, Eric holder and the extreme knuckleheads in the media that made this a much bigger lie for their hungry cameras.

Media Knucklehead#1: “Are we going to declare a race war on Missouri, or are we not?

Media Knucklehead#2: “The Amerikan media already has. “

Media Knucklehead#1 “Is it sweeps week? Please remain in Ferguson. You furnish the pictures and I'll furnish the race riot.”
