Obama’s plan to raise and train an army of Syrian rebels to take on ISIS has become yet another strategic foreign policy embarrassment, this one costing American taxpayers $500 million. Only 60 Syrian fighters volunteered to receive training from the US Army, far short of an effective force to fight ISIS. The initial plan was to train 5,400 troops. Most likely the Syrian rebels are well aware of Obama’s previous actions in the Middle East, but since Iran has sided with the Assad regime, who is going to protect them and their families once the Iranians get the bomb?
Secretary of Defense Ash Carter pointed out that the figure was small in the early stages of the program with just 60 soldiers making it through the vetting process. After all, the Regime doesn’t want to repeat the mistake of training Syrian Rebels to overthrow Al-Assad only to wind up creating ISIS! Besides, Obama feels more comfortable training the Muslim Brotherhood supported rebels. He knows them to be friends already, given his longtime association with that particular terrorist organization
Obama’s plan sounds good on paper but he doesn’t have the gravitas to back it up on the world stage. His only caveat is that no American troops will be on the ground. Americans may be there but CNN is too busy looking for a missing Malaysian Airliner to notice. The rebels saw Obama cut and run from Iraq; the U.S. military didn’t retreat, Obama did. Having seen what happened in the Ukraine, Syrian rebels must be worried that in a fierce fight for their lives, Obama will just not provide air support and abandon them, creating his own personal “Bay of Pigs” moment.

I wonder how many of those 60 are the enemy getting free training in our weapons and tactics?
The Left often accuse US for creating Bin Laden/Al Qaeda because we train/funded some rebels to fight the Soviets. Wouldn’t this same logic apply to ISIS. We trained/funded some rebels to fight Assad, who end up being in ISIS
$500MILLION...
I think we should outsource this mission to Al-qaeda.
Yes, Obama's meddling did create ISIS. The Democrats own it.

Do these fighters know whom to aim their weapons to?
Lets see who is NOT embarrassed, the obama regime and the democrats there not embarrassed, the Republicans they are not embarrassed, the MSM there not embarrassed, that leaves the taxpayer 85% or more of whom have no clue whats going on.
The Republic hangs on a very thin grossly frayed thread, very few know it and of those who do know, few care.

Actually, they have no intention on fighting the ally, ISIS. They will use their training to attack the Syrian government.
This was never intended to fight ISIS.
