In a new interview with People, President Obama said Kendrick Lamar's "How Much a Dollar Cost"—from this year's To Pimp a Butterfly—was his favorite song of 2015. (Meanwhile, First Lady Michelle Obama's favorite song was Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' "Uptown Funk".)

If there was any doubt Obama was our hippest president, let it be immediately dispelled.

(This also means the President probably heard Kendrick's explicit shout out on "Hood Politics", also from TPAB.)

Have you looked at the lyrics of Uptown Funk?

“Gotta kiss myself, I’m so pretty. I’m too hot!... If you sexy then flaunt it. If you freaky then own it. Don’t brag about it, come show me.” “Girls hit your hallelujah, ’cause uptown funk gon’ give it to you.”

It is basically a celebration of the singer’s own awesomeness and of the glamour of lascivious city life. What mindless, arrogant dribble.

It is mindless drivel, but, dang, it has a great beat.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, [Lamar] was quoted as saying, "Just putting the word 'pimp' next to 'butterfly'... It's a trip. That's something that will be a phrase forever. It'll be taught in college courses—I truly believe that." In an interview with MTV, Lamar said: "Tu Pimp a Caterpillar was the original name and they caught it because the abbreviation was Tupac, Tu-P-A-C. Me changing it to Butterfly, I just really wanted to show the brightness of life and the word 'pimp' has so much aggression, and that represents several things. For me, it represents using my celebrity for good. Another reason is, not being pimped by the industry through my celebrity."

This is what the "rapper" says about the title of the favorite album of the president of the United States. I will be so glad when Obama is gone and we don't have to read about his musical interests.

What is this stuff, more rap crap? Ain’t music if it’s beatbox with someone talking trash to the beat, reminds me more of the mindless drums in old jungle movies and of course the morons that listen to it play it at a volume guaranteed deafen.
