Your Ring of Fire is most excellent.

The sax in Springsteen’s “Jungleland” is awesome as well.

Or Raphael Ravenscroft’s soaring saxophone.

...

I read he got paid with a $50 check, that bounced.

City to City was a masterpiece, nonetheless.

Love both, once as a kid in my Dad’s car in the 70’s....and more recently with the Foo Fighters. Crack replaced booze.

It really is. And as long as names are being mentioned, I would be very remiss if I failed to include Hugh Burns, who played guitar solos that are as memorable as anything else on the record, notably on Baker Street and Waiting for the Day.

It always seemed to me that session players who come up with signature riffs and solos ought get some slice of the composer's royalty, albeit a small one.

Cover songs are not about improving upon the original but about an artist taking a great song and adapting it to their own unique style.

Fer sure. I heard a cover of Carry on My Wayward Son recently and it annoyed me no end because it was a clone of the original.

As a Pink Floyd fan, I'm going to check that out.

Also one can't find covers much more original than the ones The Bad Plus does.

Here you go. The Bad Plus - Comfortably Numb

You have to let it sink in. Headphones & glass of wine kind of music. Don't rush it.
