“I guess itâs a terrible time of year for it, but chrisinoc- do y’all have any kind of a âârailroadââ situation for transport?”
Our rescue does not normally do out of state rescues or adopt out of southern CA. We did bring in a two dogs from Michigan recently because another rescue could not arrange transport to Maryland. They were flown in from Chicago to John Wayne as we always do non stop flights so they spend less time in transit.
And:
Someone and I picked up three German shepherds from a Pahrump NV rescue two weeks because they had way too many German shepherds. It was a 550 mile round trip but we did it in 9 hours.
I understand & strongly agree. chris37- being familiar & all. . .
aarrgghh I HATE flying dogs & have only helped someone do it once. They were MUCH calmer about it than I was. Pilots for Paws puts the crate in the cockpit, which isn’t nearly as bad as cargo. (Actually, I hate flying, period, & have only flown once- just so I could say I had)
OOF But you’re lucky to be in Cali & spoiled. It’s over 600+ miles RT from my house to the Bay Area in Houston & I used to drive that every week, sometimes a couple of times a week. Sometimes, I miss it. It isn’t bad except in bad weather.
There used to be a lady here who did the long hauls. She lived in Beaumont- or around there & would go up to DFW, pick up a bunch of dogs & then make her way back home down I35 & back through Houston to home. That’s a really LONG trip. She was about the same age. I’m not sure I could have done it.
