You Can’t Have a Constitution without a Nation to Go with It
Canada Free Press ^ | Tim Dunkin

Mainstream Republican pursuit of amnesty, open borders, and massive immigration (both legal and illegal) works to destroy the very Constitution they profess to be so concerned about

You can tell it’s an election year, because the Republicans are all of a sudden talking about the Constitution again. Not that I mind, of course, but it seems that they only start paying attention to it when the generally more conservative and constitutionalist Republican primary voters start paying attention to them. So suddenly, the political realm is filled with talk about what the Constitution says about every issue, from abortion to xylophone maintenance.

The problem that I see with this, however, is that at the same time as they are declaiming their love and devotion to our founding document, most of these same politicians are pursuing policies relating to demographics and national sovereignty which are completely at odds with the perpetuation of the diluted remains of constitutional government which we have left. Put simply, the mainstream Republican pursuit of amnesty, open borders, and massive immigration (both legal and illegal) works to destroy the very Constitution they profess to be so concerned about.

Absolutely! When a loser like Marco Rubio wins Puerto Rico, you can see how uncontrolled immigration bends elections. The idea that an anchor baby and a guy born ON FOREIGN soil is even running for president shows how out of control immigration has gotten.

Adherence to the Constitution would send the DC metro area into a depression as fedgov would shrink by 90%.

Too bad.

The claim that the establishment is in any way Constitutionalist or cares at all for original intent assumes facts not in evidence.

Strict adherence to the Constitution addresses our border problems in addition to nearly every single other problems afflicting this country today.

This decay started to accelerate about the time of Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. It is not a new occurrence.

With all due respect to Mr. Duncan, I wish that he would have mentioned the fed’s constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited articles in his article.

It’s surprising how many people do not realize just how awful Woodrow Wilson was for the constitutional republic.

Because, as Obama said, the Constitution is a "charter of negative rights". Of course it appears thus to a statist like BO, and the other presidents you mention.

To the rest of us the Constitution empowers the individual. I cannot believe that the populists are now trying to make it a dirty word.

1913 - the year we got the 16th and 17th Amendments. They also tossed in the federal reserve for good measure.

The moderates, like the liberals see the Constitution as a hindrance to their power, so why would they entertain preserving it? For the little people? I don’t think so.

I look forward to the day Detroit and DC metro are equally prosperous.
