Control language and you control thought. That is why progressives have been erasing our language one word at a time, boxing us into an ever smaller corner of what they decide should be permissible.

The most insidious one was when 'progressives' and their butt boys in the press decided to use the term 'extreme' for real terrorists AND for anyone who disagrees with them.

First it was the designation 'Oriental' that had to go. The designation 'Asian' replaced it. Why? They mean the same thing...mostly. Which to me means close enough.

Now it's 'Eskimo'. I say use the word 'Inuit' and call it a day.

I'm Bohemian by geneology. I don't get my knickers in a twist because someone calls me a Czeck or a Pollack. Close enough for me.

Is underlining "Eskimo" in Moby Dick now racist too?

Eskimo! Heather Duke underlined a lot of things in this copy of Moby Dick, but I believe the word Eskimo underlined all by itself, is the key to understanding Heather's pain. On the surface, Heather Duke was the vivacious young lady we all knew her to be, but her soul was in Antarctica! Freezing with the knowledge of the way fellow teenagers can be cruel, the way that parents can be unresponsive. And as she writes so eloquently in her suicide note, the way that life can suck! We'll all miss Sherwood's little Eskimo. Let's just hope she's rubbing noses with Jesus!

According to the Alaska Native Language Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, linguists believe the word Eskimo actually came from the French word esquimaux, meaning one who nets snowshoes.

It wasn't originally French. It came from the Canadian Indians (or native Canadians or whatever).
