The Qualities that 'Trump' Character in a President: For Starters, Trump's Courage
Disputed Questions ^ | 10/10/16 | Prof. John Marini

I see why Trump raises the question of character, because there’s no public record of his life by which to assess him – in a political sense. And so people have to assess him in terms of the personal qualities — his personal life, his business life, which is again still his private life. How do we understand his private conduct in context of his prospective presidency? I would suggest that in many ways it’s meaningless to ask the question.

Even those people of character like Obama can do great damage if they make the wrong choices politically. Most all of the leaders in the period since the end of the Cold War have corrupted themselves morally by the way in which they have leveraged their offices on behalf of private gain. That would have been considered a great flaw in character historically, to enrich yourself privately in the performance of your duty.

Indeed, every President since George H. W. Bush has profited from the way in which our military has been utilized around the world. Every President since George H.W. Bush has accepted large foreign sums for their private libraries, for their Presidential library; to me that’s a form of corruption. That’s a diminishment of their character, if you understood character in an older way, which means we do not. So, it’s silly to try to hold them to an account that nobody is held to anymore...

The regime is in a great crisis. You have to start thinking in terms of, what is possible to be done? How is it possible to do it? And who is capable of at least showing the way?

I think I see his problem already...

Obama has character? Who knew?!

This is such an insane example leftist Orwellian speech that it might be saved as an exemplar.

The essay is actually much deeper, and better, than the excerpt makes it appear.

It is actually railing against political correctness and an argument for Donald Trump because of his courage.

The worst thing LBJ says here is “nuts” and “bunghole”, but this actual phone call ordering Hagar slacks is just hilarious:

To repeat a freeper’s giving us a real Abraham Lincoln quote instead of the phony stories of Hillary, what Lincoln said of Gen. Grant goes for Trump, too: “I can’t spare this man, he fights!”

I was impressed with the turnaround in his performance between he first and second debates - many fewer personal references, more disciplined and assertive - he clearly took consultation and coaching and showed a good learning curve - also good for a president without any real political/governing experience....
