Details coming in December 15 press conference
Politically this is probably a smart move, and in the short term it might make him a better president. There are precedents it sets that Im not sure I like, but well get to that. Here are the basics:
President-elect Donald J. Trump tweeted Wednesday morning that he would soon leave his great business in total to focus on the presidency, a response to growing worries over the businessman-in-chiefs conflicts of interest around the globe.
Does this mean that he will no longer own his business?
Wow. really?
He will issue (if he hasn’t already done so) stock in his company to himself, to his wife, and to his children. His stock and his wife’s stock will be placed into a blind trust. He children will pack the board of directors. The board will hire Mitt Romney to run the day-to-day operations of Trump Enterprises.
I also believe this is why he was having the meetings with ROMNEY I believe it has to do with his PRIVATE business NOT SOS!!!
Driving in the morning I heard a caller to either Chris Plante’ or Mike Gallagher’s radio show say the following (paraphrased)in response to President-Elect Trump’s statement that he is leaving all of his businesses:
Perhaps Trump has been meeting with Romney, who owned/ran Bain Capital, to plan how best to divest himself all of his businesses. Maybe Trump will be turning over to Bain Capital or a similar organization to run his businesses during his presidency. Thus “Romney for Secretary of State” was a cover for meeting with Romney to best plan the divestiture.”
For the umpteenth time:
Romney is 69 yrs old.
Trump will become the oldest elected president at 70, replacing RR.
Romney is not maneuvering to run again in 8 yrs at age 77.
Romney is not maneuvering to run Trump’s business at age 69.
He’s willing to do a couple of years serving in a cabinet post, but probably only a couple.
Getting old is a bitch, and no one dodges it.
Bummer for those who wanted to be able to try to make political hay out of it - the man is smart.
This makes sense. I don’t want Romney for Secretary of State.
A reasonable possibility, though I would prefer Trump choose someone else for this role as well. Romney, while successful, is many levels below Trump. More importantly, Romney appears to have no high-stakes commercial real estate development experience. Trump needs a much higher energy person, and he has vastly more qualified friends to oversee his kids as they run the family business.
I’m thinking someone like Carl Icahn, who’s said that he won’t accept any cabinet or Fed nomination. He said that he just likes to stay out of the drama and keep doing what he loves. He would be perfect as a Trump Family trust board member, or chairman.
Having said all this, Trump is very smart. I’m always excited to see what choices he makes, and then figure out why he made them.
Based on skill, experience and friendship, Tom Barrack, founder of Colony Capital, a huge international real estate fund, would be a great choice to manage Trump’s businesses if he would do it. He is running the inauguration and spoke at the convention.
You heard it here first.
I wonder if Barrack would buy out or merge Trump’s organization into his. Barrack is a real estate genius and the real estate company he founded is one of the most respected in the world.
In fact, such a deal would take months to negotiate. Romney would be perfect to manage the transfer. He was a buyer and seller of businesses at Bain Capital, also a respected player in the buyout business.
All speculation, of course.
Interesting! Sounds like a perfect candidate to carry the torch. Love watching all things Trump.
Interesting theory but doubtful Trump would would collaborate with someone who denounced him. He’s much too savvy.
