Battel of the .22 Pistols
Am Shooting Journal ^ | 12/7/2016 | J Hines

Do you like to shoot the .22 pistols? Have you tried the Ruger Mark 4, or the S&W Victory Pistol?

The all-new Ruger Mark 4 Pistol has lovers and haters. On the other hand, the S&W competition, the Victory Pistol, equally has fans and non-fans.

The guy from 22 Plinkster fired both and examined the pros and cons of both pistol models. He goes over which one is more simple to work with as far as taking apart and which has the better grip.See the full action here, what about you, which one do you like to use for plinking around?

Sorry, but nothing beats a Browning Buckmark.

I'll go with the Ruger Mark IV just because of the almost guaranteed long list of aftermarket upgrades that will be available for it.

The Victory may end up like the Browning Buckmark, with a core following of hardcore fans, but nowhere near the aftermarket trigger, magazine, barrel, sight, and holster support that Rugers take for granted.

The Buckmark is perfect out of the box, no need of aftermarket upgrades.

I struggled every time I clean my Ruger, when I owned it, you know before it got lost, but loved it anyway.

How about a Ruger 10/22 Charger pistol?

Same mags as the Ruger 10//22 Takedown rifle that I have. (I’m a huge fan of magazine interchangeability)

The Mark IV is significantly easier to reassemble than the previous marks.

Mine is an original Mark 1, made in 1953, year I graduated from HS.

Pain in the butt to clean.

Not as bad as the old MKII.

I own a Ruger 22/45, which is a sort of poor man’s target pistol, and it is very reliable and accurate. No fancy sights, but I paid about $200 for it brand new (albeit 15 years ago).
