Chicago Public Schools send 381K kids home with letter blasting Trump, GOP governor

Roughly 381,000 kids were sent home this week from Chicago Public Schools with a partisan letter blasting President Trump and Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner.

Chicago’s WGN reported Tuesday that officials with CPS angered parents by handing out letters that excoriate Republicans — and Republicans only — for budget problems. A letter distributed on Monday begins by saying that Mr. Trump and Gov. Rauner “attack those who need the most help” as a segue into the state’s financial woes.

“CPS cannot run the school system that your children deserve with the funds we have,” the letter says. “Under the law, CPS has used all of its taxing power to bring in the most dollars we can. CPS has also borrowed billions of dollars to keep the schools open while the Governor and his political friends continue to cheat your children of their fair share of the state’s education dollars.”

“This is so inappropriate,” a parent who contacted the station said. “How can [CPS CEO Forrest Claypool] send political propaganda home?”(continued)

My guess is that it costs around 20,000 per student to school these kids. And it is still not enough. Meanwhile the Lutheran School my youngest attended is a little over a third of that.

This isn’t even about class room funding. It is all about pensions

They most likely are pissed because Chicago is a Sanctuary City and they use fed bucks to support these illegals. Trump has said they will cut funds to sanctuary cities.

The Trump administration is, hopefully, going abolish Dept. Of Education. They’re terrified.

I live in Chicago. This is typical rabid Teachers’ Union behavior. Another example that I witnessed in January 2013. I New Jersey Teach Union Officer told me (she thought I was an Obama supporter) told me they used ALL their union due monies to defeat Christy. Teachers hand over their hard earned money to The Union and The Union wastes it on political elections.

Wonder if one looked at CPS management, if one would find an “cheating” of the children in the form of wasteful mismanagement of school district funds, over priced school executives, etc.?

Answering my own question, it seems CPS has been poorly managed for years.

Chicago's schools are running out of cash after drawing down reserves and shortchanging pensions for years, which caused its annual payment to soar. The district has relied on borrowing to help cover budget shortfalls, making it crucial to maintain access to the municipal bond market. On Jan. 29, Moody's Investors Service cut the board deeper into junk, citing an "increasingly precarious liquidity position and acute need for market access to support ongoing operations."
