Ramifications of California voting for secession
Myself ^ | 10 February 2017 | MeganC

Posted on 02/10/2017 11:11:01 AM PST by MeganC

There are some people in California currently gathering signatures to get an initiative on the ballot to change the language in California's constitution to allow California to secede from the USA. If it passes the law will also put a question on yet another future ballot asking if Californians want to secede. If the vote is yes then it becomes their declaration of independence.

It might happen. I won't rule it out especially after 2016 in which so many 'impossible' things happened.

So what happens if California votes to secede?

Well, before they vote on independence but after they vote to enable secession I hope that Congress first acts to keep the loyal counties of California within the USA. The precedent is West Virginia being severed from Virginia when Virginia seceded. Congress can create the State of Jefferson and include the counties that want to leave California anyway. I hope they do.

California cannot be allowed to use the US dollar. If they leave they must be immediately cut off from our banking system. Otherwise they will use their access to wage economic mayhem against us and they'll also use the dollar to prop up their economy.

The US will need to think about what to do with Californians who wish to flee to loyal states. We'll also need to think about how to treat those who stay. After what point will we consider Californians to be foreigners?

The US needs to withhold funding for all long-term infrastructure projects in California. Governor Jerry Brown wants the rest of us to pay for his choo-choo train and for his hundred-billion dollar Delta Tunnels project - which will funnel water to disloyal Southern California. I know I don't want Wyoming footing part of the bill for this.

What do we do when California inevitably allies itself with Russia and/or China? Will we allow the Russians and or the Chinese to base ships, planes, and troops in California? Because you know they will.

One thing I think should also be done is to cease the recognition of all academic degrees from California and to remove California educated academics from American schools and universities. Don't let them spread the contamination!

Just starting the discussion and hoping that anyone in California who supports secession will maybe see some of the ideas we all post here and then take a moment to consider the potential downsides of their independence.

The real question is whether the commander of the California national guard will take an order from moonbeam to stand up against the US Army, Navy, Airforce and Marines.

IMO, civil war. There’s no way we give up California.

Arizona will be glad to re-negotiate contract on the electricity we sell them. I’m thinking double the price.

California goes bankrupt day one. The USA, its massive government and all its leftist social-engineering schemes itself exists on massive spending, based on a completely unbacked dollar, and massive debt, courtesy of the Federal Reserve and manipulated interest rates.

If California truly tries to go ahead with this, they will have NONE of these advantages to support their own massive welfare state. They will be bankrupt immediately.

They will also cause a major hit to the credit-worthiness and stability of the USA and its own debt and economy.

Mexico, China or even Russia will see great opening to meddle in this quagmire as well.

It will be stupidity and pain all around, but especially for themselves.

There is no legal process in place, for a state to secede from the union.

There are legal processes to admit new states to the union. But no procedure for states to leave.

As a practical political matter, if Calif were not in the union, Trump would have won easily in the remaining 49 states. No way that Chuck Schumer and his boys would just sit idly and let Calif and 55 Democrat electoral votes disappear.

OTOH, that Nutty 9th Circus will no longer exist. And that’s a good thing. It’s an embarrassment to the judicial branch. I know that SCOTUS won’t be sad to see it go.

It’s not going to happen. Texas v. White settle the entire issue of secession.

You forgot about the IRC 877A expatriation rules.

Collect the exit tax from the Californians that left.

After what point will we consider Californians to be foreigners?

I would say that the point of considering them to be foreigners, came a very long time ago.

My question is (a suggestion as well), will California allow the rest of the country to vote to kick them the hell out of the union? I'm hoping to assist them to leave.

When it comes to treating them as "foreigners", I was thinking about that right after the 9th Circus court voted to stop Trump's ban of refugees who might do us harm. At this point, California is like a foreign country making decisions that harm the rest of the country that still wants the U.S. Constitution and the rule of law to matter.

This kind of thinking is way above Sen. Schumer's pay grade.

No way that Chuck Schumer and his boys would just sit idly and let Calif and 55 Democrat electoral votes disappear.

Before you secceed, talk to someone from the South. See, if you try this, we will come in there and kick and then reconstruct yo azzes. This war will make it difficult at times to distinguish good guys from Dims, so all California FReepers are advise to have their beebers on prominant display so as not to be confused for the enemy.

Bye.....but just take the leftist counties with you. We’ll keep the conservative counties, the Central Valley and its agriculture and a chunk of coastline. And vote in 2 conservative senators.

California is quite broke financially too... especially with their pension systems (may not be as bad as a few others around the country but there’s been a lot of real problems in CA pension systems.. much of which is kept pretty quiet but its there)

also, CA needs to pay its share of the national debt before being allowed to leave (trillions of dineros!) ... nobody can be allowed to run up huge debts and then just walk and dump them on the rest of America’s citizens to repay
