Making anyone with a modicum of intelligence wonder if Kunstler has any idea why "Empire" is such a powerful term to any dictator.
It's not about the expense, it's about how it looks on a map of the world.
France, for example, has a vastly larger economy and greater GDP than Russia - for that matter, so do California, Texas, and New York - but you know Vlad Putin would rather be Emperor of Russia than of France - or New York!
I love the guy. Sure some of his stuff is nuts, some paranoid, but a lot of what he writes is spot on.
The stuff about private contractors is spot on. It’s the mechanism by which deep state power has grown out of control
