Truth and Error about Prop 187 and the California Republican Party
Canada Free Press ^ | 02/25/17 | Arthur Christopher Schaper

The issue with Republicans in California has been the long-standing habit of going liberal on certain issues and inflaming the base

Mid-year 2016, the Sacramento Bee trotted out their same tired line about Prop 187 and the long-lasting damage it caused to the California Republican Party. The media narrative loves to demonize conservatives as anti-immigrant bigots who pushed this agenda so far in 1994, which in turn caused the GOP brand to suffer.

Californias problem is not so much the GOP brand as it is the liberal electorate. True the GOP runs to the left in California but that’s what you’ve got to expect when the electorate is so liberal. One thing the GOP could do that would not just be spinning their wheels is bring litigation to undo the Dem gerrymandering. The Dems are always complaining about GOP gerrymandering but they are just as guilty or more so and the GOP lets them get away with it.

“187 was final blow to California”

No, it was the way they fired up the millions of new left-wing citizens that REAGAN LEGALIZED through his 1986 Amnesty. Once 187 came - they got those people to start voting, and then Bush let the country get flooded by millions more Illegals...who also voted.

But it all started with Reagan, sadly.

While other states were asleep or mocking CA massive invasion, way back in 1994, the people of CA voted OVERWHELMINGLY for 187 and they won!

The feds working in concert with their state co-conspirators, burned the CA ballots and declared their free election of the people, illegal.

The results of these leftist intrusive government actions, can now be seen coast to coast.

Wasn’t it the 9th circus court that dismantled 187?

CA has a lot of problems, one of which is the high cost of living there, including a state income tax that is driving productive people out of CA. The second factor shows itself in this:

"No such thing as an illegal alien" Really? I don't think most Americans are against immigration, but they are against illegal immigration. That's the law. To say there are none is just plain stupid and to suggest that people who are against illegal immigration view them as inhuman misses the message by trying to make people who do complain seem despotic demons.

Finally, CA problems are compounded by people who still believe in a free lunch (e.g., Boxer, Feinstein, and Pelosi). If your "children need education", then you should be willing to pay for it. Since many illegals exist in an underground economy, I don't think they are paying their fair share and that upsets people, too.

Although I agree that Reagan and Bush have much to blame for the invasion that has taken place over the past two decades, your comment implies that the illegal alien vote caused Proposition 187 to get defeated. That is incorrect - Proposition 187 won handily.
The leftists found some activist Federal judge to rule against it, and then the California Attorney General - who is supposed to defend the rights of the People (i.e., the people who voted for Proposition 187) - refused to pursue getting the activist judge reversed.
Similar to Proposition 8 (the defense of Marriage). The Leftists found some Sodomite Federal judge to rule in favor of the Sodomites (surprise).

I agree that California has gotten swamped with Leftists (as well as illegals) over the years, but even when the people vote for sane Propositions to reign in the insanity - the crooked Government squashes these attempts.

I didn’t imply 187 lost...read my comment again.

My point was that Reagan legalized millions of potential Democrats...and then 187 gave the Democrat Party a rallying point that enabled them to register those same Democrats...giving California its permanent Democrat majority.

What you say about the judges, of course, is right...and shows that when the Dems are in power, they can choose which referendum results become law (the ones they like) and which ones don’t (the ones they don’t like).

All in all, a VERY SICK SYSTEM.
